You all are so knowledgeable and I don't have a clue...
Can you tell me what this is? It isn't mine, but belongs to a friend who sent me the photos. It's the pod I don't recognize, but I'll start with a photo of the vine:
Need help with an ID...please...
Got an answer...thank you, Ron, even if it isn't a Morning Glory.
What was it Sharran?
Hi Becky,
Common name is honey vine or honeyvine milkweed.
Hang on and I'll find the botanical name.
Actually it isn't even a morning glory, which I suspected, but didn't know where else to ask when I couldn't find it in PF.
Here is the link though...

I was hoping Ron or someone would know.
Thanks
Sharon - That's very unusual (at least in Florida)! I've never seen a vine like that before. It's a host plant for the Monarch caterpillars? Looks like it would be a nice plant if it weren't so invasive! Do you have one growing in your yard? Or are you planning to start some?
I love my Monarchs, but this vine kinda scares me after reading all the reviews about it in PlantFiles. Thanks for letting me know what exactly it was.
No, it isn't mine, in fact I have never seen it.
I had a note and the pictures from a friend who lives in Louisville, about 200 miles east of me, and it is growing in her yard along that fence you see in the picture.
I thought it might be an interesting vine, but didn't like what I read about it either.
Actually thanks to Ron for his knowledge. I would have continued to think it was in the Convolvulaceae family, some sort of MG.
I have been working on MG research and have run across some strange things that are included in the MG grouping, but this vine was something I did not recognize at all.
Hope you are doing well, Becky.
Sharon - That vine almost ... and I say almost ... looks tempting to grow. I love butterflies and Monarchs are my favorite. I can't keep enough Milkweed in my garden. The caterpillars devour my MW plants! Everyone told me that Scarlet Milkweed could be invasive in Florida! LOL LOL LOL NOT! I had over 30 plants in my yard and I am now down to 10. The caterpillars ate them to the ground 2 years ago and most of the plants did not recover and did not come back. :-( I plant at least 50 MW seeds every year. But the butterflies find the young seedlings and eat em up! Sheesh! Those cats are such pigs!
I am doing well. First year is always the hardest when you lose someone you love. Still trying to settle all her things. And my family is surviving this recession. I know so many people worse off, so can not complain.
Did you and Garlynn ever finish painting the playhouse. I never heard anything more about how the family is doing now ... without Gunner. :'-( I think of Janna all the time.
They are doing very well, and the playhouse is ongoing, so it isn't finished yet. It might never be, Garlynn keeps changing her mind!!
Tough for them too, because that anniversary date is also coming up.
Thanks for asking.
Sharon - I can't imagine losing a child. It was hard enough losing my mother. I can totally relate to everything that Janna went through ... after caring for my Mother with the help of Hospice. Gunner's story is one I will never forget ... ever. You are such a blessing to that family. You know .. YOU are what we call an Earth Angel! :-)
Becky, thank you.
You better believe that I still nearly fall apart when I am with them, though.
I haven't yet, but it is so hard.
Thank you so much. You made me smile.
I do remember the hurdles you were having to overcome, too.
I hope some of that has eased.
When does your school start?
School starts in less than 2 weeks. I am not ready to go back to work yet. I worked summer school, so I've had a short break. I wanted to take the entire summer off, but I needed the money, so ...
School started here last week. It still bothers me for a few days, to see the school busses, but not as much as it did the first year I retired. I had taught so long it was just a way of life, and very strange to not be going back.
I'm pretty much over that now, except for just a few days this time of year.
Sharon - I used to work for company for 18 years and took the volunteer lay-off. It bothered me for the first few years after I left, but the company was sold and went down hill after that, so I left at the perfect time! :-)
Well ... I am off to bed. Long day ahead tomorrow! I need all the beauty sleep I can get these days! Good chatting with you ... LOL!
Take care, Becky. Good to catch up with you, too.
