Plant ID please

Santa Rosa, CA(Zone 9b)

I thought this was some sort of wildflower. I picked a few from a friends house, and stuck them in dirt.
I liked the little purple flowers.
Then I noticed that they have some sort of fruit growing??? What in the world.
Anyone know? I am adding two pictures, one of the bloom, and then a close up of the 'fruit' about the size of a marble.

Big guess here - some type of Solanum? Looks a lot like this one, so it's a place to start. http://gardenbreizh.org/modules/gbdb/cache/photos/GBDB_photo_713.jpg

Maybe a Mexican Petunia.

Definitely looks like a Solanum of some sort--I'm not sure which species though.

First I thought it was Mexican Petunia (do they grow here in CA?)
I used to live in South Florida and had and liked the Mexican Petunia. That's why when I saw this in a friends yard, I took a few clippings.

Upon further investigation KaperC & ecrane3 win the prize. From what I can see it is called
Solanum laciniatum.

I found this picture and it is exactly the plant.

Thanks for the direction.

Thanks for the help KaperC!

I have Mexican Petunia growing in direct sunlight in Las Vegas. It is doing fine. It also did not freeze last winter and we had snow.
