I found this spider in my back yard, high up on a window sill near the pool. It is about 1.5 inches in diameter and was found in Southern California (Riverside) in mid August.
It looks a lot like a Garden Spider...but the pattern on the back is wrong and it is not a vivid yellow...it is more of a yellowish brown.
Black and brown (or yellow?) spider?
It looks like one of the orb weaver garden spiders. They eat lots of bugs.
Maybe the Western Spotted Orbweaver, Neoscona oaxacensis
Hmmm, I don't think so. The markings are not quite right, and my spider is not "furry", except maybe a little bit on the pinchers (or whatever those things up front are called).
Nice picture on the blinds, it looks like the spider is glowing.
