CLOSED: spider id help needed

ok, i've lived here 15 yrs and have NEVER seen a dude like this. he's on a daylily leaf about an inch wide to give u a size id. i know the pics aren't crystal clear but i gave 'ugly man' a wide berth !! i'm in ne nc zone 8a.

He is a she; this is a very fat (probably gravid) female wolf spider (family Lycosidae). It probably is in the genus Rabidosa; see http://tinyurl.com/nhjde7 for a much slimmer example.

Really neat spiders. They are hunters and aren't dangerous to humans unless you mishandle them, then like anything thing else that feels threatened, they will give you a painful bite.

thanks guys. i see the long, thinner wolf spider a 100 times a day but NONE like this 'young lady'. she's a tad intimidating, if u know what i mean....
