Silly OT request (smile)

Hi friends, I thought some of you might be so kind as to give my dog a vote in a photo contest!! Just think if he wins all the MG seeds I could afford to buy and share. Now of course that isn't meant to be any kind of bribe or anything!! LOL http://www.cutestdogcompetition.com/vote.cfm?h=C7781E837DEEAAE33BD0577E7084B2C6

They are big & beautiful dogs. I love their faces. Harper looks like she's doing the "Cleo on the barge" pose. Our dog Dax is from the shelter, and is a joy to be around.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Sarah I would love to see a pic of Dax...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ronnie - Atticus has such an unusual coat - the color and the patterns are really neat! Goodness! Him and Harper are BIG dogs! They would probably knock me right over! LOL! I bet no unwanted visitors come a-calling at your house! LOL! They probably scare everyone off! :-)

What's the vote up to now?

And yes! Sarah - do share a photo of your pup, Dax!

(Zone 7a)

ronnie - 72 now - I hear you about rescue pets - Our vet is part of a network still looking for homes for pets rescued from Katrina in 2005. I can't imagine any cats more lovable than the ones we adopted from her (local strays).

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Becky! They are such a great breed (the bulldog too) "gentle giants" is really true!! If you can get over the long puppyhood and short life span their wonderful dogs. Funny thing is with them being that big you never trip over them!

Here is Abby the bulldog my other favorite breed.

Something I think you should know about my dog Shaggy. In a way he too is a rescued dog because he has a serious birth defect. One of his front legs is deformed making it difficult for him to walk. My wife and visited
our local pet store and liked him so we enquired about the price, the manager informed us of the deformity
and said he was about to be destroyed. That was more than I could take so I offered to buy him there and then
without even thinking about the price tag. The manager was visibly moved by my offer and gave him to us free of charge. Now I have the sweetest little dog you can imagine. I love dogs all shapes n sizes, shaggy is tiny but he has a big personality and a huge will.

Ronnie - I love Abby's toothy smile! You should have entered her photo in the contest too! That photo is a hoot! :-)

I am impressed that Sabrina is over 10 years old. You are fortunate! Most of my friends that have the bigger dogs say they rarely make it past 8-9 years old. They usually don't live so long. She has that unusual gray coat too. Is she related to Atticus?

Jon - What a great story!!! Sometimes the handicapped animals make the very best pets! Such a heartwarming story! The teacher I work with has a Bengal cat with only 3 legs. He also was going to be destroyed, but she took him. (Also got him for free.) He is a hoot and is not slowed down by his handicap short-coming. He kinda hops/gallops along! LOL!

My dog and cat were both Humane Shelter animals. Both were strays when they were picked up. I love them and they are such wonderful pets. Lady is in all honesty, the best dog I have ever had. She is an absolute sweetheart! I think when animals struggle for part of their lives (especially when young), they really appeciate a good, loving home. I know I sure appreciate my pets and can't imagine life without a dog and cat. I've had one of each for the past 30 years! I was never a dog person until I married my dh. He liked dogs and I liked cats. We compromised and were forced to appreciate the value of each type of animal and have always had one of each. Now the funny thing ... my dh likes the cat a lot and I love Lady! She is my baby girl! :-) My daughter gets a little jealous, but the dog doesn't have that teenage girl attitude and moodiness! The dog is much more pleasant to be around! LOL!

I love hearing rescue stories!! I think people forget that we domesticated animals and they depend on us!!

Jon what a great story! I see so many Danes in rescue that are special need dogs. I wish I could take them all in.

Becky Sabrina isn't related to Atticus by blood. Her color in Danes is actually Blue...age gave way to the gray color no. When she was a pup her skin actually had a blue tint and her coat was ever so shiny!

I have always been a dog person. We were raised with Saint Bernards. I had a cat as a child but none now. My husband, believe it or not isn't really an animal person!! I had five dogs last summer...guess he loves me a lot!! LOL I have been hinting for a new rescue since Sabrina is so old and if looks were daggers I would be in a lot of pain!! I would foster the Danes if I didn't babysit my Granddaughters. It is a big commitment and you are just never sure of the temperament. Unfortunately a lot of the Danes in rescue were abused.

Ronnie,
You really know how to pick "em!! As soon as I figure out the new photo program, I will post a pic of dax.

Can my kitty join the crowd??? This is Holmz...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joanne - YOU beat me to it! I was gonna post my kitty Penny's photo just to give a thumbs up for cats, too! LOL! Beautiful eyes on Holmz! He looks like a sweetie!

This is my crazy cat, Penny. Also a stray from the Humane Shelter. She's different than any cat I've ever had. I am having to de-sensitize her. She doesn't like to be petted or like most cats, rub up against your leg. When I pet across her back, instead of arching up like most cats because they like it, she slouches down as if trying to avoid the stroking over her back. I've never had a no-touch cat before. She is probably that way from lack of contact as a kitten. I make her sit next to me and I scratch her under the chin and pet her. It drives her crazy because it seems to overstimulate her. She can't wait to get away from me! But I have noticed and so has my dh that she comes up to us more now ... looking for a quick pet or scratching. So I think my behavior modification program is working! LOL!

And yes! That is a snake on the windowsill that she is trying to get at. I have so many snakes in my yard that it is not even funny. I have to watch where I walk sometimes because they will come out to sun themselves and I almost step on them.
