Best new plant this season?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Apparently they are good here too--you should see this monster! LOL! I love the way it attracts the bees and butterflies. I was not aware of this plant til this summer (that happens when you get gardenless), and I love it! And I like it with the coneflowers---and I'm going to shut up about it now! LOL

I bought a couple dahlias a year ago last spring, did not dig them for winter but can you imagine how surprised I was when they showed up again among the phlox? They are dinner plates about 7 feet tall. In a way it is new to me this year.

Nice combo, Maria---I love dahlias, & will try to plant more next year.

Oh aren't you lucky Maria. Looks beautiful. Maybe all that snow that never melted all last winter was a nice blanket and kept the tuber warm enough to return. Nice surprise.

now you guys want me to go and buy a couple of those blue ag's... LOL

Ge your sprite looks great... you should be proud!!... mine were started later than yours.. and smaller but still doing good

Did yours winter over?
I have hopes they will slip by the zonal requirments

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no not yet... but I planted them in the ground after summer from the containers I was growing them in.. and after that harsh cold winter we had... I don't think it rooted it self well enough.... this year I put 2 directly in the ground this spring... the one spot I picked was near a zone 7 scabiosa that came back this year.. grown from seed last year

I am hoping my retaining wall will aid in keeping them warm

Good point. I'd bet on it.
