beer can chicken on the grill

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i got a recipe for beer can chicken on the grill. it calls for placing a 1/2 can of beer in the butt end of the chicken which has already has a dry rub on it.

next, the chicken is placed into a aluminum pie plate and after the grill is preheated to medium high the chicken is plced on the side of the grill without heat.

i have a three burner grill so do you think i should light both the middle and side burner and place the chicken on the other end or should i just use one burner for heat.

also, does anyone have any suggestiosn on how i could make this better. understand the chicken should be about 3 to 4 pounds which is what i have.

the recipes says it should take about an hour and a half.

thanks
