Wow 41 views and no introductions!! Come on lets get to know each other!!
RSM - You started this thread, you are new here, and you didn't give info about yourself??? LOL!
Ronnie - You are right!
Anyone can introduce themselves here - newbies or oldie-goldies! (I'm not a goldie, but I am an oldie! LOL!) So I shall introduce myself too! Maybe a few others will jump in here as well ...
I live on the east coast of Florida (Hurricane Zone). I've only been gardening for 5 years, but jumped in with both feet, a shovel, and lots of determination! After joining DG, I got a real boost to my garden with tons of wonderful advice, lots of seeds (from trades and just folks sharing with me for postage and sometimes just for no other reason than to surprise me!), and some great ideas! My garden is still a work in process. I am especially fond of Morning Glories .. specifically Ipomoea nils. And the Japanese cultivars had me at the first hello ...
I am a mother to 3 young adult children. No grandkids yet. I will be married to my wonderful dh for 30 years this month. Gee .. can't believe it's been THAT long ago since we tied the knot! Where DOES the time go???
I am employed full time at a school working with very young children who have varying disabilities. I have the priviledge of working with an awesome teacher. It's a challenging job, but also very rewarding! My students are the absolute cutest, let me tell you!
Anyway, that's my story in a nutshell!
I would love to hear from everyone else here ... be it lurkers or regulars to this forum ... so don't be shy ...

Hi, I'm Angele. I have one beautiful MG - Blue Picotee. Been growing it for several years - ever since I was sent some in a seed trade
Hi Angele! Welcome! Did you get the seeds from another DGer? Do you take photos for posting? If so, I would love to see your Blue Picotee that you love so much! :-)
Yes I got the seeds from WillowWasp back in 2005. I was new to DG and she was so very kind to me. This photo is from the first year I grew them but I have been able to save seed since I don't grow any others. They open a pretty deep blue and take on purple tones as the day goes on. This year the flowers have been smaller but still a very deep blue.
Thanks for asking & do you have a favorite? Would love to see everyone's favorites
That is the most unusual MG I have ever seen Gerris! I understand yellow is rare and with a striking pink throat no less.. ;-) heehee
LOL ☺
Angele - Great photo!!! And a very sweeet Blue Picotee vine! Do you grow it in a pot or in the ground?
Hmmm ... my favorite MG of the "moment" would be a mutant that I got from Sarah (Quaintcharm) that she calls "Diluted Fuji no Muraski". (See photo.) But to be honest ... I can't choose just one. I love them all! Each cultivar is unique and beautiful in it's own way. These vines have wrapped themselves around my heart and mind ... :-)
Now if you asked me which one was the most FUN to grow ... it would be a cross that I hand-pollinated and continue to hand-pollinate with every generation. It's sterile, so I have to use other cultivars to get pollen to fertilize the vine to get seeds. I named it Lady Yagumura Kaleidoscope because the the parents are Lady Laura (mom) and Youjiro Yaguruma (dad). Kaleidoscope came from the fact that it has children of many colors, shapes, and patterns. :-)
Joseph does grow the most UNIQUE vines! LOL All shapes and sizes! Ha, ha!
Joseph just luv the doo!
ROTFLMBO! Joseph - You are such a hoot! :-D
LOL,LOL you all are hoots!
Becky that sure is pretty and it looks really large flowered. It must be very satisfying to see 'your children' - I wonder why they all come out so different? I have grown the Blue Picotee in pots and in the ground. This year they are in the ground. The soil isn't very good so maybe that is why the flowers are smaller.
Joseph, I think you found Howie Mandel's hair. There may be a reward!
Hi angele,
I have some new gardens here since we moved and am discovering lots of plants. I am a retired SENIOR and would like to use most of my time in the garden and spending time with my grandchildren. The first year (3 yrs ago) I decided to try growing from seed and had success with the combination of Heavenly Blue MG and a Blushing Susie vine. I tried different morning glories after that, but most gave me lots of large leaves and not too many blooms. I am careful not to use a high nitrogen around any flowering plants. Can you tell me which species will have the least amount of foliage.
Thanks
Teri
Teri, hello! I have no expertise with MG whatsoever. I hope someone can answer your question but I can tell you I think your MG display is gorgeous! Boy oh boy!
Thanks angele,
I was gifted some mg's which I will post when they finally bloom and maybe can trade them for some seeds of all the lovely ones that I see here.
the more you fertilize them the more leaves they will get. you can also give them bloom boost which will help them produce more blooms. some morning glories take longer to bloom and many of us start them in door then move them out.
some even bloom indoors over winter for winter sowing. i started mine late this year so hoping weather stays nice and get to see them bloom.
i start usually mine in about feb march but like i said started late this year

I will try the bloom boost on them imzadi. I usually don't use any fertilizer with nitrogen which produces greenery instead of blooms so this seems like a good choice.
Becky,
The seeds from the diluted Fuji No Murasaki were from an ebay "free gift pkt/blues" from EmmaGrace. I think the germination was beginner's luck ! I am also having vines with the lighter green leaves and the darker green splotches on them. The one that is blooming has small Fuji No Murasaki type flowers that never fully open. The flower petals all have a "cut out" look to them.
Sarah
Hi
I am going to be 40 years old believe it or not!
I live in the rainy West Midlands and the only thing that seems to grow for me well is ipomoea purpurea.
My specific interest is ipomoea tricolor.
I have been growing and studying ipomoea since about 16 years old and took about a few year break from growing ipomoea, the reason being complex health needs and various other problems; to be honest I forgot almost everything.
I started late this year from 5 year old seed so I will be overwintering my tuberous rooted species like dahlia tubers in the loft.
I have picked up a few tricks and hints here from studying Joseph's Japanese thread on using the right pots (window sill shaped) that will help me with drainage and made a few friends.
When I joined the forum there were d-mails flying around "don't trade with me" I think that has been resolved together with terms and conditions people have applied to grow outs.
Morning glories now only comprise a small amount what I grow; I have collected a few funky things during the years.
To be honest I am not really into trades as I have everything I need.
Roses R Red - I use Bloom Booster by MiracleGro. I swear by their product. I use the blue chrystals that you mix with water. I water the base/roots of the vines every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. I get lots of blooms! I have used other company's products and have not had as good of results.
Sarah - You got the original seed for "Diluted Fuji no Muraski" from Emma? I have never seen her post a photo of this cross. I can't believe she would give it away as a freebee! It's such a beautiful and unique bloom/vine, that I would expect it to be a best seller at her eBay store! I don't think I have ever seen it listed for sale.
RSM - Almost 40 huh? You are still a Spring Rooster! :-) What I. purpureas are you currently growing? Any higes like Colin is growing? What tri-colors are you wanting to grow?
Becky gave me that advice awhile back and now i have some blooms. have a few that might get another dose to see if it helps them bloom.
Hi Becky,
I mentioned it was an ebay "gitf bag" one from her on another thread here a few weeks ago. She mentioned on that thread that she had grown it, and was looking for the pics. I think it was a thread EmmaGrace started. When I posted it on the thread I started in September in 2008, EmmaGrace cropped and enlarged a couple of the photos at that time. I D-mailed her, we chatted about it, among the advice she gave to me. I think she was trying to stabilize it before posting it. She didn't make a point of it being one of hers, but eventually I found the little plastic zip bag, and knew where it came from. I think the five seeds were probably randomly chosen . I imagine if you grow that many MG's sometimes an unusual chance seed gets in the mix. I was lucky enough to get one. When I first saw it, I didn't think it was anything unusual, but it reminded me of blue butterfly wings. I happened to choose that bloom to post last year, because our son was visiting, and I wanted to learn how to post on Dave's. Now I have Vista and I have to learn over again. He was home recently and did some screen shots for me to follow. I really miss the old Wizard program! The vines I have with the light green/dark green mottled leaves was an ebay purchase from tasteeclectic called "Unknown Morning Glory" I have yet to grow the Monet No Fuji seeds from her store. I stored a bunch of my MG seeds in in a container in the basement, and lost track of them. I am looking forward to growing it.
I just bought bloom booster, since you guys have good luck with it. I started my MGs inside, but the blooms are long in coming on the nils. I would like to have time to get seeds. The Diluted Fuji No Murasaki from last year was sown outside, and didn't bloom until September! I think it was Ron who originally called it FNM with diluted gene. In my original thread last year, I wrote that I thought it was a Sunsmiles! Thankfully, I know a little better now.
Sarah
Sarah - Thanks for clarifying information about the Diluted Fuji no Muraski. Interesting that you grew a seed that produced a seed that I grew that seems to be stable. You only sent me a couple of seeds, so I don't know if the other seed(s) will grow true as well. But I fully intend to grow more of this mutant vine. I just love the blooms! Has yours bloomed yet or is September the magic time for yours to start showing off? I got very few seeds from the one I grew this year. I think that is going to be a problem with this vine. Lots of blooms, but few seeds. (I am hoping I am wrong, though ...)
I am also very interested to see what kind of blooms you get with your Fuji no Monet seeds. :-)
I hope you figure out how to post photos on Vista. :-)
Becky,
The seed I grew from the Diluted FNM pooped out. I was really happy yours grew true, because I knew it was only a percentage that the seeds would be true. I removed all flowers from the vine as soon as they opened, if they weren't the mutated ones. 95% of them were mutant blooms but they didn't produce many seeds. They might have carried the gene for the mutation, but it felt more honest to send seeds from blooms like the ones I posted. I think the DFNM looks more "Monet like" than the one called Monet No Fuji where the colors are strictly clean, and inside the lines. Monet paintings are more feathery impressionist looking like the DMNF.
Right now, some of the ones I'm growing are from you -- LYK--Shibori X Grey Lady-- Ten Ten--& Willow Leaf Asago. They will soon be bloom boosted, since the vines are getting big and leafy.
The others which include Kohkan, Blue Silk ,Oheme, Mikasa ,Gypsy Bride, Purple Hige, Fuji No Murasaki, one of he mottled green leaved ones, Cocoa Chocolate, Star of India, and one called Fire Red ( really rose red in my yard) from MG Japan and Rebecca are blooming so far. I've got to get that camera program going.I took pics of all of them.
Sarah
Sarah - I am sorry to hear your Diluted Fuji no Muraski didn't make it. That is certainly an illusive cultivar ... I agree too that it does look more Monet than the Fuji no Monet cultivar. I wonder who named the Monet vine?
I would love to see photos, so I hope you get the camera program figured out soon! I can't wait to see how all of yours turned out! A picture speaks a thousand words! :-) :-)
