CLOSED: found on my basil

Missoula, MT

This bug is destroying my basil. It also looks like it is laying tiny black eggs on the leaves. Anybody know what kind it is?

This is an earwig (order Dermaptera); for the most part, they are scavengers, but some species will damage tender vegetation (my wife absolutely hates these insects). Whatever the black objects are, they would not be earwig eggs. Earwig eggs are pale and pearly in appearance, and are laid in the soil. See http://tinyurl.com/ko52ap for a fact sheet.
