I'm very confused-what is the difference between Lilium lancifolium (Lilium tigrinum) and Lilium lancifolium var. splendens (Lilium tigrinum var. splendens). People seem to use the names interchangable to describe the same Tiger Lily. How do you tell them apart? Any help you can give me would greatly be appreciated.

Here is some info from a quick search http://www.paghat.com/tigerlily.html and http://www.mikesbackyardgarden.org/ltigrinumsplendens.html It would appear that splendens is shorter and has smaller flowers.
