Just spotted this guy on one of the cedar shakes on my front porch. I don't think I've ever seen one of them before. He's about two inches long and there are some black spike-like projections coming out of the 'fur'.

This appears to be a caterpillar of the American dagger moth (Acronicta americana; Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/kb32http://tinyurl.com/kb32
I checked out some pics and info regarding your ID, suunto, and it certainly appears that my caterpillar matches the pics and description. Thanks so much for your assistance.
