Looking for a pure pink lilly

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

I used to have a pink lily and have not been able to find a replacement since it gave up the ghost.

I'm looking for a pink that is like Bonica or New Dawn roses or dianthus Inchmery. And with no shading. Just a plain color, like Early Yellow (but pink).

I find I can't rely on photographs. I've tried a number of "pink" lilies. For instance, Elegant Lady is too dark, too "gray" and has too much shading.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

TIA
LAS

Chianti is a good pink Asiatic. That's the first one I can think of and it multiplies well for me.

What type of lily are you looking for? When do you want it to bloom? How tall? These are all factors.

Thank you echoes, I'll check it out.

Maniac,
If I could find the right color the height or bloom time wouldn't matter. I could move things around to fit it.

thanks

Here's Time Zone. Is it close to the pink you want?

Hi, Piri,

As I said, I can't trust pictures, but I bet that's too dark. Are you familiar with the new Dawn and Bonica roses or the dianthus inchmery? I've decided that's how I have to identify the color. Let me know if the photo is darker than reality.

thanks

Sorry. It's reality - hasn't been touched. I don't know Bonica or Dawn roses or the dianthus. So it's a much lighter pink that you want?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

So I'm guessing that you want a good solid pink, just not a really dark pink? Aphrodite is a shorty, opens with a strong pink that softens a bit.

If you can post photos of Dawn and Bonica roses it would make it much easier for us to help you.

Vivaldi is a medium pink

Thanks to all. I've ordered a digital camera on line so I don't have to wait to get film developed then scan it, etc., etc. I will get photos when we go back to winter home next week and will take photos. Yes, I think the suggestions are probably too dark. I'd have to say it's definitely a light pink I'm looking for. Some folks call it "shell pink" or "apple blossom pink." But people's concepts vary. I'll definitely post some pictures in a week or so.

The pinks can also vary in different climates as to the depth of color. 'Tiny Todd' and 'Tiny Athlete' offer a shorter lily in a very pale pink shade. An asiatic.

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

Thanks, I'll check out those two "tiny's." In the meantime, while I wait for my digital camera, I'll add two other flowers to the list of those with the perfect color. They are petunia Chiffon Morn and petunia Appleblossom.

Is this the color you are looking for?

Hi, Mainiac,

That could well be, but, as I've said, pictures have not been reliable. If this picture is off a bit, would you say it's darker or lighter than the real thing? Anyway, it looks like it's worth trying. Do you know the name??

BTW - Just had a glorious lunch at "The Lobster Shack" last week. What a lovely place to live.

Thanks,
LAS

I haven't grown this one but found it on-line
Algrave
Large flower is orchid pink, making it a true Asi-Florum lily; very few speckles in center of flower; very strong stems with nice foliage
sun: sun, partial shade
zones: 4 through 8
usage: cut flowers-pot plant-landscape
flowerheight: 36

Maybe someone has grown it and will share thoughts.

PS I live in the Cape Elizabeth slums. Not on the ocean. LOL

What does "Asi-Florum" mean?
Thanks for searching on my behalf!

Poland, ME

Asi-Florum is another term for Longiflorum-Asiatic hybrid. This is a cross between two different types of lilies. This class usualluy has strong stems and great color.

I bet this is the pink you want. If so, I have to dig a couple for a friend. If you want some let me know and I will mark them. BEV
Don't know the name.Sorry

Oh, wow, Dragonfly62!!

I think this might be it!!! I'd be ever so grateful!!! I'll look around for things that I have that you might like and send a list. Unfortunately it's been a VERY BAD year in Maine. Cold and rainy and woodchucky, so I don't have many seeds and don't know which lilies survived the woodchucks. They ate the tops. Not sure if just stems will help them over-winter. But I do have a lily that is lovely. When I get my digital camera in a week or two I'll send you a picture.

Thanks!

LAS

p.s. Are there really 61 other Dranflies??? :-)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

That lily might be "Vermeer". You can do some Google image searches for photos taken under varying conditions to get a good idea of what it looks like.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Ok LAS but don't understand your ps note???Thankyou par BEV

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

Ah, Dragonfly62, I see I made a typo. I meant to say, "Are there really 61 other dragonflies," a feeble funny based on your name Dragonfly62. In my case there are not, as far as I know, 13 other LASs. I just like the number 14.

Back to you when I get some photos of stuff I've got that you might like. But of course, whether I send you stuff in return or not, I'll pay the postage, right?

Thanks again.

Thanks, Pardalinum,

I did Google various photos, and even though some show a light pink (although many show a dark pink), I'm sure it's not the one I'm looking for because it has a white center. The lily I had was a uniform color all over.

But again, thanks for responding! This is great. I wish I'd thought of it before, as I've been trying to find this lily for several years.

OK! LAS LOL

LAS d mail me about the lilies so I don't forget. BEV

OK, I got finally got my digital camera - on e-Bay - cheapest one I could find. Interestingly, it's pink.

I do think that dragonfly62 has posted a picture of the very lily, and I'm watching for Algarve, suggested by Maniac, to become available. Also the two "Tinies", suggested by Magnolialover. They're not it, as too small, but I wouldn't mind having a short good pink.

But here is one of the promised pictures anyway. My New Dawn has faded to white, but my Bonica rose will do. My Chiffon Morn (or Apple Blossom) petunias have gotten bug eaten, and have darkened as they do in late summer. And the dianthus inchmery didn't wait for my camera to arrive.

The darker pink rose is the color I'm seeking.

Sadly, dragonfly62 is having health problems (check the Iris forum), and might well be unable to send me her pinks, so if anyone else has a candidate, I'd be happy to trade or buy.

Final post Part 1

There are plenty of good pink images in this thread, but I finally got my regular film developed (after leaving it at our vacation home for a while), and scanned. So I don't want to waste the effort. Here's a good picture of petunia apple blossom.

And here's a good picture of New Dawn.
