Tips on finding an orthodontist for my daughter

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

I would like to take my girl to an orthodontist.
I am in Lebanon MO, so Springfield, Rolla area is ok too.
I really have no idea what to look for in a dr, and what to expect. I assume some services can vary quite a bit in price just as everything else?
Any tips?
Should a first visit cost me very much?
She is eight yrs old by the way.

It has been a long time since my son had braces. He is 42 now. But I do remember his regular dentist recommending someone.
We were in the military at the time, but the dental work was something we had to pay for ourselves.
Once he had the braces on we again had to move to another area. It was again a recommended orthodontist that was made for us by our current one.
You could ask her regular dentist for some names that he recommends and then ask the individual ones for an estimate of what it would cost to have things done.
I was given a set price and then the work was done for that one price including the follow up visits which would tighten and adjust them every time.
Now as you can see, this was many years ago. But they may still do things pretty much the same.
It wasn't cheap, but you have to do what you have to do, or the rest of their lives they will be having trouble. I never regretted doing the braces as he had pretty extensive corrections to have done. Sometimes they have to remove some teeth because the mouth is too small to accomodate the room they take up.Fortunately, my son got to keep all his teeth and it was just a matter of straightening them and moving them gradually over several years into place.
Hopefully there will be someone more current to help you out.
You could google for orthodontists in your area also. Most Dentist and medical professionals have website with information on them nowadays.
