how close to plant for cross pollination?

does it depend on the different trees? For example, I was told that pecans can be planted up to 30 ft apart for pollination. Then, I was researching olive trees, and this person told me I needed to plant the olives 6 ft apart for pollination. That seems too close and the person sounded unsure.

If you have a link where I can read up on this subject, I will appreciate your posting here. thanks.

Depends on different trees. But that's far closer than is needed for olives.

With wind-pollinated trees, the pollen can blow a very long way. I was just reading about a study where someone found traces of pine pollen in the air over the Atlantic Ocean mid-way between Britain and Newfoundland. Well over a thousand miles from the nearest pines.
