Potatoes that glow???
Pete2
I think we will stick with the
real thing. We are planting our New potatoes this weekend (#100). I would not be able to eat something
that could glow!! Wait till I tell
my DH.
Honeybee
The jellyfish gene trans-genetic experiments were first carried out as a way of testing if there was transference of GMO genes to other plants. The question was whether we were creating super-weeds with things like Bt corn.
Idea was that a farmer would run his fields with a black light (which is all the "monitor" is). Anything that glowed green outside the perimeter of his fields could be pounced on immediately.
Understand this carefully. On one hand, they (the agri-chemical and related companies) insist it can't happen. But, just in case it does, here's a "solution" for the non-existent problem.
A more important point. Monsanto and its trade partners control 80% of the world food crops. Yet, it is obvious from that solution that they have no idea what their customers do for a living.
Can anybody here imagine a farmer getting on his tractor in the middle of the night and shining a black light on his fields? Not my neighbors, that's for sure.
I hate to think where all of this experimentation will end. It really scares the daylights out of me!
What if in the cross the the jelly fish gene is not pasted or is not visibly apparent in the resulting plant. I lOVE science. But just because something can be done doesn't mean we should do it. This sounds like one of those cases.
On the bright side maybe they will get to the point where my entire garden will glow. Then I can garden all night to!!! Maybe instead of headlight I can strap a tomatoes to the front of my truck. Or "Honey can you go out and pick me a cucumber the one in the bathroom is getting dim." Funny but scary.
In God's name where will it all end. I feel quite sick!
Sad to say, it can only end in a Malthusian catastrophe.
