Well, here we are again, it is time to decide on the date for our Roundup at Randol Mill Park in Arlington.
Please come and let us have fun trading and sharing as usual.
Sheila and I can do it on September 19th or October 3rd.
Please Everybody let us know which of these dates will work for you as soon as you can.
We need to know in order to reserve the pavilion, we don't want to lose our chance.
Your friend,
Josephine.
North Central Texas Fall Roundup
Maggi made the one in the Spring and I would like to make the Fall swap. Either day is fine with us but it is still sometimes pretty warm in September. All of these trades I am doing is getting me into the swap mood.
Great Ken, we are looking forward to seeing you.
Josephine.
I can do either as well. I agree, though that it's still a little warm in September sometimes.
Very good Stephanie, good to hear from you.
Josephine.
I think I will be out of town for the September date, but could come on the October day.
Dennis
Hello Dennis, good to hear from you, it looks like we are leaning toward October 3rd, we shall see.
October 3rd is great for me. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Charlene
Hello Charlene, so good to hear from you, how are your plants coming along?
I hope things are better since the rain.
Josephine.
Josephine, I lost some plants due to having too many to take care of in the drought that were still potted up. I also lost some bedding plants and a few shrubs. I saved many though and they are doing much better now.
I put up a shade cloth and put all of the potted plants under that and put a line with 16 misters on them in the heat of the day. It has really made a difference in them. I also have a work table there with my soil and tools for working on the plants.
I am learning as I go. I will be more prepared next year when I take them out of the greenhouse, they will either go to the shade house or straight into a new bed. I even put a shadecloth over eight of my beds. They seem to like it better that way. Even the ones that are full sun plants are doing better there. My yard is not landscaped like a home, it is more like a plant farm. That is okay by me though as I still get to enjoy the flowers and it is easier to grow them for resale that way. I haven't really started selling them as of yet, but I am growing them with that in mind. I have sold a few just to test the market and I think they will do well for me.
Charlene
We sell more Gingers out of the ground then we do in pots and it is much easier to care for. The selling season is so short here that it just works you to death to pot up so many plants to sell and then plant them back if they don't. Keeping them in pots is a real pain with all the extra watering.
Ken, I plan on picking your brain quite a bit if you are willing to allow it. I have much to learn about this plant business. I know you have much experience. I really enjoyed my visit to your place last year. I was really impressed with your place.
Charlene
Well it looks like you have a good plan going Charlene, the shade cloths do make a world of difference.

Ken I hope to see your place one of these days, I missed it last time.
Josephine.
I can be there either day. Goodness, that is just around hte corner isn't it.
I prefer Oct but could probably make either day.
With this rain,it seems more hopeful that there will be plants to share.
Very good Lizzy and Anna, good to hear from you.
Looks like several of you are ready for a fall RU!! Email others and send them the link to Josephine's post so they don't miss it. We want to spread the word.
Good idea Sheila !!!
Just sent 30 plants and starts home to Tulsa with my DIL. Guess I need to start some more.
Christi
Hey Christi, good to hear from you too, it will be great to see you.
Josephine.
As far as I know, we'll be able to attend on October 3rd.
DNP
Great!! look forward to meeting you.
Josephine.
October 3rd, I need more time as I have not started anything yet. :)
Sylvia, what did you wind up doing with the ferns? Ebay didn't seem to work out.
Charlene
Thank you for checking in Sylvia, I am getting excited already about seeing everybody.
October would be perfect.
Oct., please!
October date would work, let's all cross our fingers for cool weather.
Would genuinely love to be sporting a sweater for the round-up.
It sure is hard to type with a Cockatoo in your face LOL
Eother date would be nice:
september to celebrate
my birthday weekend, but
more than likely it will still
be hot so prolly October
would be a better bet.
Lets start praying
RIGHT NOW for a mild abd
beautifu day!
Looking forwatd to meetin yall.
Love, BajaBlue
Wow! Phyllis, Fungus, Cocobid, Bajablue, thank you all for responding, Sheila and I are looking forward to meeting all of you.
It surely looks like October is the best month, but i will wait to hear from a few more people.
Josephine.
Hey!! where are all the regulars, hiding from the heat?
Don't worry it will get cooler by October, so come on Everybody!!!
Josephine.
Yahoo - I'm ready! Either date is good for me, Josephine.
Carla
Alright Carla!! looking forward to it.
It seems that a final date may be set for East TX RU of Oct. 10th. A date for College station is set at Nov. 7th.
Has a date been set for this RU yet? If not, then I wish we could consider doing it in Sept if anyone else would be happy with that date. This would give us plenty of time between all of the three that so many of us attend.
As far as the temps, you never can predict what it will be in our areas anyway. I have seen us use air conditioning on Christmas day and on a damp breezy day get a chill in Sept. We really have weather like the Gomer Pyle character's saying of life is like eating candy from a box of chocolates; " you never know what you will get'.
Of course later would give us more time to prepare if needed.
Charlene
I don't know Charlene, when Sheila gets back this weekend we will take a poll again, but it seems more people want October.
In the meantime keep it going everybody!
Josephine.
I too wanted to go to all three but may be backing our of the CS one because it is in November. That is just to close to our average first frost. The last thing I want to do is bring home plants that need special treatment ehen I pull in the drive. Then again I do not expect to bring home a lot of anything. The more we collect the less I see that I can not live without. I am still looking for a blue Brug.
charlenesplants, I believe that quote came from Forest Gump.
i will be looking forward to it! i like october much better
nicer weather--more time and september is going to be super busy for mewit school starting up
I also would love to go
to all of them but since
I cant drive myself will have
to negotiate with hubby and
son for someone to drive me
Arlington willnot be a problem,
but CS might be except we
have a compadre who works
for bryan college station ISD
and that might lure hubs into
agreeing
But thinking positive thoughts.
Would like to request mint
cuttings if anyone has any
they can spare...
Hugs BB
Ging for the good company
bajablue, I have mint what kind are you looking for?
I love them all! Specially
like the varoegated ;eaf one,
I forget if it is apple or pineapple
mint.
But would be thankful for any type.
When they razed our old house
and built a brand new one, the
bulldozer guy disregarded my
wishes and instructions and
destroyed all of my int patch
and the lavender crape myrtle
my Mom had given me.
Boo hoo
But that crape myrtle had
such a will to live that it
ran about 30 feet under
the slab of the new house
and emerged from the side
wall. Another plant miracle !
The mint wasnt as motivated.
