Magnolia blossom today

I saw this blossom in closed bud stage this morning. I thought it would be a couple of days before it opened. I look again around 1:00 this afternoon and it was in full bloom. Isn't nature amazing?

I'm not sure what type it is but when we first moved here I was so excited as I had never seen a Magnolia tree and when the first bloom opened I cut it and brought it in the house. It only took a couple of minutes to realize that the fragrance was too overpowering to have in the home. Very strongly perfumed but very beautiful.
