CLOSED: Beetle?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

I can't tell if this is a beetle or not - it was swimming around in the birdbath, but it didn't seem like it was aquatic. I moved it to the side (twice) and it went right back in the water.

It's less than half an inch long, has a pointed end.

There's a smaller all-black one in there, too.

Anyway, I just thought it was weird, they seem to prefer being in the water.

I cropped this one, a little closer view.

I think I found it, they're tumbling flower beetles (Mordellidae family) Hoshihananomia octopunctata, formerly Mordella octopunctata. Still can't figure out why they went back in the water, though.

Good question. I've found a few mordellids (different species than yours) in water buckets that I set out in the vegetable garden.
