Need a good foundation shrub for front of house- California

Our house faces the west in zone 8-9 in the central valley. which is very hot in the summer. I would
like to keep the shrubs to around 4 ft, as we have a window in the area they are to be planted, (possibly 4x4) It is shaded until around noon and then is very sunny for about 3 hours, then shade once again from the trees. I would prefer evergreen or semi-deciduous, with some type of blossom,
preferably pink/burgandy. Does anyone have any suggestions!

Indian Hawthorne would fit your criteria. Grows to ~4', evergreen, has a pink flowering variety and puts on a real show in early spring. Very easy to grow and maintain. It can take the heat and will thrive in either full sun or partial shade. Has glossy green leaves that look good year round.

Or try the taller form of Carrisa (natal plum) white frgrant flowers and edible fruit.

Maybe Iochroma, Psoralea or maybe an inland tolerant species/cultivar of Ceanothus. Not sure if these do well in the central valley.
