I'd been noticing a lot of frass under my potted ferns on my porch, and finally spotted the culprit, a worm or caterpillar munching on the leaves. I don't know of any butterflies in this area using ferns as a host plant, is this guy something I want to be rid of?
CLOSED: ID needed, caterpillar or worm on my potted ferns
This appears to be a Florida fern caterpillar, Callopistria floridensis (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/mmqosj for an image and http://tinyurl.com/kmwqgp for detailed information, including control recommendations.
You're GOOD suunto!!! Thanks very much for your help! Think I'm going to have to handpick these guys and do away with them (either that, or give up my ferns to them)....
