jmp24,
So you are in a bachelor's program? Good for you. I went back for my bachelor's 6yrs after I got my AD and was working full time (1 child at home still) and a month after I started the completion program (1 night a week for 22 months plus study group activities) I got pregnant and then got pregnant again (22 months apart). Talk about God watching over and guiding you through something. I won't go for my master's. I am getting too old for that!!! And I'm so busy with the girls and half-time work in ED and church stuff, so that's OK with me.
You will do just fine. You will enjoy nursing. I did cardiac for 12 years and have been in the ED for 9 years now. Good luck and be sure to take some time for yourself.

My SIL works in the cardiac cath (?) unit...think that is what it is called. She loves it.
I think eventually a bachelors will be required for nurses in NJ, they tried to make it that way last year but the "law" didn't pass...I am sure it will come up again. Lucky for me I am within driving distance of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, so my options are really unlimited - though most likely I will be moving back east, towards the shore area where I lived before. I miss the ocean!
22 months apart - yikes! But don't feel too bad, my two youngest brothers are 10 months apart. My mom said she did alot of crying during that pregnancy! Alot of good came out of it though, those two brothers were very close, like twins growing up. I was older and really had no one close to my age, was very jealous of them growing up, they always had each other no matter what.
Gail, thanks for looking, but no rush! Just keep me in mind if you come across them -
Please come over and see my photo essay of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens!
I would love for you to see it through my lens! I hope you like it!

Geesh! I am so bad! I totally missed this thread! Gail, I apologize for starting another one for OT Photo's ... I guess I was looking for something that said OT and completely missed the topic of August Outside Plant Pictures! I'm really getting old.
Those Plumeria's are OUTSTANDING! Wow! Really beautiful! I have a few Plumie's from Susan too and only one has bloomed. I sure hope I get one with flowers like that first picture of yours, it is absolutely amazing. Ya know I love pink!
Ok, now I'm going back to look at all these lovely non gessie blooms! I will post a note over on the other thread that I started on the 11th with a link back here so we can continue the rest of August here, showing our outside garden pictures!
Gail: I keep going back and looking at that Plumeria! It is so gorgeous. I am really, really hoping one of my other Plumeria is that color, I will be doing a happy dance if it is!
jmp: Your "Pep" is adorable and that Hoya is really, really nice! Is that carnosa Tricolor a/k/a Krimson Queen? I haven't noticed any fragrance whatsoever on my Rubra or Tricolor, but have heard others say the blooms are fragrant? Have you detected a scent on those blooms? It sure is a nice looking plant! Ok, just went farther down the thread reading and I see where you said it is fragrant, the doggie smelled it and stopped for a sniff!
We had a lot of honey bees last year but I've only noticed a few this year, don't know why. They are a good thing to have in the garden!
Lovely "Spider Flower"! I grew some pale pink ones from seed a long time ago. They did go to seed and more came back a second year but after that I don't know what happened because they were no more. I might just have to get some seeds to sow as it is a pretty addition to the garden.
Congratulations on your continuing education and getting your nursing degree! I admire folks who can do that job! I have a lot of compassion for people but don't know if I could be in that field ... too depressing seeing so many suffer on a daily basis. Although, I guess after awhile working in that field, you have to learn to let some things "go". I hope y'all nurses don't get a lot of patients who are "complainers", but I guess that comes with the territory too. You can just try to tune them out to some extent, LOL.
And, for EVERY nurse out there ... Thank You for the work you do! I know it's the Doc's who get the big paychecks but in my opinion it's the nurses who do all the work ... and I've found more nurses who seem to know a lot more than the doctors do!
Phoebe: That Queen Anne's Lace is gorgeous. And, what beautiful Dahlia's! I love Dahlia's and have heard they grow well here but I've never had luck keeping them alive. Such pretty blooms. There was a lady on the AV forum a few years ago (Alison) who grew Dahlias. She lived on the west coast of Fla. and always said she had great luck with them.
Rain: That Ceropegia is so pretty! I have never seen blooms on one before, really nice! I had a really full basket of that plant years ago but managed to kill it after about a year. Actually, I think it drowned from being left out in the rain. ^_^
Laura: Wow, going back to school with one child at home and trying to raise a family, all at the same time! Then having two more 22 months apart ... that's a lot of work. God does see us through and carry us doesn't he? Sometimes I think, even when we don't realize it!
My oldest sister is only 9 mos. 3 wks. older than me! Yeah ... she came along and 9 mos 3 weeks later I was born! My mom called us her Irish twins but we weren't real close growing up. We had totally different personalities, she was very outgoing and I was very, very shy and quiet. We've become closer now that we are older. I turned 61 in March and she didn't turn 62 until May ... we share the same age two months every year .. it's funny! I was always closer to my youngest sister who is eight years younger than me. We have more of the same tastes and interests.
Well, I guess I will go walk around the yard and see if anything new is blooming that I can take a picture of.
Lin
Lin, just today I whacked off all the blooms and took a big piece to the girl from Vietnam that does my nails. She has been wanting a pink and yellow plumeria for so long.............doesn't she have to let it get hardened before she plants it?????
LOL, got me? I received all of mine as "sticks". You should have seen my face when I got the very first one ... thought I'd been had for sure ... someone sending me a dead stick! ^_^
My first one that I paid postage for and the ones I received from Turtlechi were already hardened off I guess, they rooted really fast!
Lin, don't buy any cleome (spider flower) seeds, I have trillions of them, in pinks and purples. The flowers, of which I have dozens, are full of seed pods right now. I can send you enough to sow several acres!!
Yes, that Hoya Tricolor (K. Queen) is fragrant, but not as much as the Hoya Variegated (K.Princess) or as much as the solid green carnosas. I like the scent of carnosas, compared to some...for example, I have a Hoya verticilata that smells so bad I have to hold my breath when I walk by it, sort of a over OVER bearing dead rose scent. The hoya flower attract all kinds of insects, seems this badly smelling one attracts WASPS!! Another reason to stay away from it....
As for nursing, I have no intention of spending my career around sick or dying people in hospitals. There are alot of different types of nursing, and I don't think I could handle that part of it anymore than anyone else! I am very interested in holistic medicine, and in forensics. I would also like to work around kids, but I will probably gravitate more into preventive medicine than just nursing people thru illness. I hate to even think about it, but once I get my RN I will be continuing in school till I get my masters. I would even consider teaching, especially when I get older..
nice wayetti, mine is blooming now too.
Gail, yes you need to harden your plumie off for about a week. Then place it in fast draining soil on a very hot surface, like concrete or black top. It should root very fast for you. I have several noids, and enjoy them so much!!
Woo Hoo ... I knew this was going to open soon. I've been watching the buds swell the past few days and yesterday could see a little color showing. Just remembered to go out and check it this morning.
One of my noid Catt's blooming.
edited to say: No fragrance but it sure is pretty.

Beautiful! Lin. Is that one that will bloom indoors?
Grrrr! I lost my entire post! I hate when that happens! I need a manicure, my nails are getting so long I'm typing between the keys and making typo's and when I hit preview I don't know what happened but my entire post is gone bye bye ...
Anyway, I was saying:
I think any orchids will grow indoors if given bright light and humidity! I know some folks have greenhouses but I think there are many people who also grow them indoors. I do have to bring mine inside around mid December (or sooner if the temp's drop below @ 45º at night.) and I move them back outside @ mid March when it starts warming up. I had a few blooming inside last winter in east and south facing windows in the guest bedroom, where they got early morning sun and bright light the rest of the day. Even with our year round humidity I would still spritz them with a mist of water every once in awhile. As far as I know Orchids like very bright light but no direct sun. There may be some varieties that can take direct sun but I don't know enough about these plants to say for sure.
That noid Cattleya in my photo above came from either Wal-Mart or Home Depot. I like to buy the ones in the little plastic pots and plastic bags that they have hanging on an end shelf. They usually run $9.98 for the smaller ones and $14.98 for the larger. I did splurge a few months ago and bought a potted orchid for $24.98 but that was a first ... I hate to spend that much, not knowing if it will survive or not. Our Wal-Mart isn't carrying orchids or even orchid bark anymore, and they are sparse on small house type plants this year too.
Zebra longwing on the same Red Pentas --->WOW! Great pic!
Lycoris radiata("Red Spider Lily"):--------------->Beautiful Lin!!!!!
Thanks you! When I got those bulbs in a trade I planted them in a couple of spots in the backyard and I had one bloom last year and not this one. I love this plant .. wish now I had planted them all together in the same spot ... a mass planting would be gorgeous!
Wow! That's a beautiful Hibiscus!
Very pretty Connie! I am jealous of all the tropicals you guys can grow!
Thanks! You can grow them too. I live in MO. Just bring them inside for the winter :)
Thanks for all the entertainment, ladies! Love to see your photos with the blooms!
Love the pictures!! Very nice.
