Would love to have, VV! Unfortunately, we had tours set up each day. Wish I had more time in your fair state.
Mammoth Cave National Park
I'm not nailed to the ground.
Unless you flew into Horse Cave, you had to drive right past me.
Don't think I won't hunt you down on my way to Martha's Vineyard for the Holly Society of America meeting last week of October. Mrs. VV is a force to be reckoned with...and she bears chocolates and baked goods.
You're always welcome, VV. Just give a holler.
I flew to Nashville and drove to Cave City from there.
Ha! Geography wins.
At least you got to see what karst is all about.
Thanks for the photos---been many years since I was in a cave & that was someplace in Europe----I was cold & claustrophobic, but I do love to see the pictures!
Yes, and it's quite impressive.
One of the rangers who lead a surface tour focusing on Floyd Collins, who was trapped in a cave and died before rescuers could reach him, told of some spooky things some have experienced. He said a group of them were doing research in a cave that is not open for tours. There was an old phone down there. It rang when they were working. One of them picked it up and no one was on the other end. They traced out the line and found it had been cut long ago. There were other tales of orbs of light, etc.
You had to squeeze thru 'Fat Mans Misery'? hee hee he
Great pictures, thanks for sharing makes me want to go there now.
Yes - even me! There is also an area known as Tall Man's Agony. You had to do a Groucho Marx impersonation.
One of the weird parts of the history is a short-lived experiment to house tuberculosis patients in the caves! It was thought that the cave air would help. It didn't and many visitors were infected.
Hah! Fat Man's Misery ....
On one of the many tours, the Ranger suggested we all think we were a drop of water, bouncing off the walls, as the waters raged past, creating the narrow pass!
Of course, all of us college kids, being off the wall, literally bounced off the walls pretending we were drops of water smashing about .... ah youth ......

Wonderful sights, Victor! I think your shots were very good considering the environment! I'll bet your boys enjoyed the adventure as well! Sounds like a great vacation! Thank you for sharing it with us!
I get creepy thinking of all the weight above the cave---I'm not much fun driving through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnels---if I had to use tunnels regularly, I guess I'd move.
Thanks, Louise! It made me realize I need another lens! I should have brought my Gorillapod as well. That would have helped a lot.
beautiful Victor!!!
Thanks!
I would have enjoyed that trip!
Hard to imagine anyone not enjoying it. It's a Grand Canyon kind of experience.
great pictures victor - have never done a cove tour like that before - it will go on the list - thx!!
