This just visited us in our living room and scared my boyfriend half to death. I came to the rescue and captured it under a glass dish. Can anyone identify it?

Just a regular house spider?
This is a male spider in the genus Tegenaria, which includes the common house spider, Tegenaria domestica - see http://tinyurl.com/c2jgc9 - it appears to have suffered the traumatic loss of two of its legs. Very young spiders can regenerate lost legs when they molt; adult spiders cannot do this.
