What do you see across the fence

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Willi posted a peek thru his fence at his neighbors garden.
I thought it would be fun to have a thread of those views even if they arent so great.
If your neighbor doesnt garden and just puts his weed pile there, show us.
If your neighbor is a prolific gardener show us that too.
This is a picture across my DL garden to the 12x18 container of Black Raspberry bushes they tend with loving care.
Thats all the gardening they do excepy trim bushes and mow the lawn.7 kids is why too busy even though the kids are over 16 on up.Good people ,just not gardeners.

I cannot see much of my neighbors yards for most of the gardening season. One I can see some lawn but they are not big gardeners except for the usual pot or two of annuals, some ditch DLs and the usual assortment of shrubs. They are all very nice quiet mind your own business types. Would help you if you asked but leave each other alone mostly. Most of my yard is bounded by 80 acres of conservation land owned by the town and some of the neighbors that live there (Bambi, etc.) are not so nice sometimes. Although they have been a bit nicer lately. Here is a pic of one of my neighbors back yard.

Thanks for responding.80 acres Huh?
nice

Troy, NY(Zone 5b)

I had to put up a construction barrier to keep the neighbors nasty weeds out of my yard. I sprayed her poison ivy and I ruthlessly cut any of the intruders on my side of the fence. You can see the barrier and some of her nasty weeds in this pic.

Thats a mess.
Just the kind of picture I was hoping for.
Neighbor doesnt have to be a gardener.

Troy, NY(Zone 5b)

My garden or the junk behind?

Hoping the hydrangea and clematis eventually get big enough to cover the barrier and the fence.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

They will probably block the drift of weed seeds too

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh that's terrible BR... such a pretty bed being invaded like that.. you would think the neighbor would want to look at your flowers instead of the weeds they are growing

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I hope this is OK to post, it was seen over the fence.
The story goes; New 4 house subdivision 23 years ago. I planted many pines for privacy with one left over. I planted it on what I thought was the property line half way toward the street.

Two new houses went up 2 years ago. The land survey showed the thee well into a neighbors property. He took it down for more sun by the pool.

Oh, the folks in the white house behind the ceder fence found they owned 8 feet beyond the fence.
Here is the stump while "looking over the fence".

It is amazing how trees can make neighbors angry. My neighbor called screaming about branches in her yard (yes the same one with the weeds and poison ivy) that were blown in by a storm.

My husband told her to put down the thirty pack and pick up the branches......sometimes I really love that man!

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

My neighbor has nothing but weeds and an odd collection of trucks. GOD I hate that bunch. Give me my 10 acres, and no neighbors, please. That's my dream.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Amen!!!

Troy, NY(Zone 5b)

Amen here too.

Retirement means better zone, fishing, gardening, a view and no one over the fence. Saving my pennies and making my DH work like a dog.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Borders are touchy.
I guess I got lucky,my neighbors only grow Raspberries and the one on the other side is a gardener.
Your pix were just right Sarahskeeper.
The conifers planted in this 20 year old neighborhood are dying of some sort of bark beetle.
This means spraying and I am affraid its too late for the tall stumped spruces that form the border with the rasberry guy.,not to mention they form the shade on one end for my shade garden.
I'm going to look into saving the ones that arent so far gone.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have 5 neighbors across the fence. All maintain their property well, only one really gardens but he's higher than me so I only see that lot when walking the dog. The tree hater (in the white house) has been a jerk all along, everyone else is fine.
Those across the street are another story, not pretty, lol. So I let the lower branches of the trees in the front yard grow to hide them. One family is moving out today, another will get a foreclosure notice soon. Both homes will remain empty for a while in this economy.
Such is life in the city.

Here's the pic that started it all .... Thanks for the thread, Jo Ann.

All the real kookie neighbors have moved out and the new ones are too new to know just yet, soooo .... I don't have any stories ....

..... except that the neighbor two doors down doesn't mulch-mow the lawn, but dumps bag after bag after bag of the grass clippings into a large pile in the fields behind all of our properties (actually, behind another neighbor's property, not even their own).

Now everyone, but them (because they have NO gardens, only lawn and a cement pad) have to deal with a particularly nasty type of ugly mutant dandelion that is popping up everywhere because the grass clipping pile is a virtual factory for these weeds and their BILLIONS of light fluffy seeds.

I'll take a nice picture of their wonder weed factory to post!

Here is a zoom of that showing the nice lady's garden next door, the two white posts are in "THE OFFENDER's" backyard, and another nice lady's garden the next yard down.

Note how low the middle lawn is cut, too, and how nice the other two lawns are.

(I don't sound tooooo bitter, do I?? I just hate to see the good neighbor's pull all those dang things, knowing how hard it is for them physically to do it, just because they "have to live next door to them" and don't want to make waves.)

Allah knows I am not perfect, but I hope I am never that clueless about my actions .... prime example of how this country ...... ut oh .... I better shut that thought down, right away, eh??

I'm affraid so.We're just gardeners here.

Fredericton N B, Canada(Zone 4a)

I am fortunate to have great nieghbors....no fences and a long view of flower borders and lawn.Plus we are all friends.JOY

Aged, I notice that about Canada. I went up to Waterloo, Ontario for a week trying to get my deceased Aunt's things in order, and EVERYONE has a little garden. No matter what side of town you're on, the little yards are full of flowers. And almost everyone was so laid back and friendly. You thinkk all the nuts roll down here to the States or something??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would have named this thread, 'Do you like to look?' ^_^

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I think so! hee-hee
Actually think I can contribute here. Back later!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Only you Victor.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sorry Willie... and very nice Aged!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

:-)

Well, I think the reality of that is: if that's the "worst" thing they do, things aren't that bad.

I would hate to have the junkyards some have to view. Or, to lose a tree you planted and watched grow for decades .....

Willie, why would your neighbor dump his grass clippings on his own property? Who wants that? lol.
Aged, that looks very nice, you're lucky.
My fence is 300 feet long, most of it is very hard to see. There wouldn't be a fence at all if I didn't have a dog.
This is looking over the dog fence from the front yard to my back yard.

WOW that is soooo beautiful.
That royal purple clem with the dark leaved (looks like) Dahlea.Really nice garden

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, GE. The clematis is Polish Spirit.
While I was writing the above post, I was thinking how the fence also keeps varmints out.
Minutes later my dog Sarah caught a small/medium woodchuck. It had dug under the fence. This was her first kill of the year. I usually call her off and she listens, it was too late this time and that critter has been damaging gardens, so.......

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

beautiful Andy... love the echo of the dark color... in what I think are your dahlia foliage

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

One, they are Redskin dahlias. I like the dark foliage almost as much as the red flowers.

We all need a dog like that.
I am desensetized to cute little creatures.
Walt Disney didnt do us any favors by making them seem so benighn.
I want to see a Disny film where they show the rue nature of squirrls, rabbits and deer.
I'm arthritic and every plant and bloom comes at a cost.
Nice Dahlias by the way.the whole garden area is wonderful.
I would like to grow clems on bushes.
Might try that next year.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Aaahhhhh bad neighbors I can write a book or least an episode of COPS. lol

But at our new house, they are just wonderful. When we were moving in they actually came over with veggies from their gardens welcoming us to the neighborhood.
I'll have to remember to take pics of what I can see. Hopefully will stop raining long enough.

Thomaston, CT

Beautiful garden, Andy---none of my neighbors garden---there are 3 bulldogs on one side of the fence, and an agoraphobic on the other side----on one of her rare trips outside, she told us she was allergic to our hemlocks----they were about 20 years old at the time---guess she wanted us to chop them right down. Her DH, who was a really good neighbor, died 2 years ago, & she's gotten even more neurotic----she did, at one time, have a flower garden with plants I gave her, but that's now gone---

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

terrible things life can do to us

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Some people use anything to get attention

Thomaston, CT

You're right Jo Ann---although my DH knew her mother & said she was exactly the same. Many folks live in that house, but the 28 year old granddaughter is the only one who does anything---she & her boyfriend mow, weed a little, pay the bills-----although she keeps saying the bank is very close to taking the house---very sad.
