I have this lovely spider living at the base of my bananas in the gh. Would like to know what kind he is. I love his tunnel of spider web. Am sending three photos.
First photo, as he enters his home.
Thank you!

Sorry to send such poor quality photos, am still learning how to use my new camera. This is the third and last photo. It is of the web. Spider disappeared down the tunnel.
I do really like him and DH is getting ready to trim the banana stalk by his lair. I don't want to harm him if possible. Even if he is scary looking, I like him a lot.
Thank you again!

This spider is in the family Agelenidae (grass and funnel-web spiders); likely in the genus Agelenopsis - see http://tinyurl.com/llagkt for an example. Generally considered harmless to humans, there is at least one report of a spider in this genus (the western grass spider, Agelenopsis aperta) inflicting a medically significant bite - see http://tinyurl.com/l799u9.

Thank you suunto. Good to know. Very kind of you to help me. The banana stalk that DH wants to cut is right above his web. I'll ask him to cut it higher than the webs' anchor points. He's so shy, you'd really have to provoke him to bite.
