a bunch of newbie questions.....

I wish I could grow avacados. Have you seen the price of them in the stores lately? I'd also love lemon tree or orange tree. Alas, I live in winter wonderland here.

Thanks for letting me know that garden surplus is OK for the birds. They really love green beans. I snap the beans and let them have all the ends.

I let them out of their exercise pen for the first time today. I was so nervous. They all stuck together like glue and had a ball eating grass and bugs. They stayed out for a couple hours then they all went back into their pen all by themselves.

Loon, I live in zone 5a. I plant my citrus in large lightweight pots and they go out in May and come inside in October. I got mine from Four Winds Citrus. They have varieties that are well suited to pot culture. It's worth it!

I think Four Winds is about 30 miles from here...DH does their phytos.....They have very nice Kafir Limes if you are into Thai cooking.

Oh yeah, now you just go make me even MORE jealous. Sniff. Giving you a condescending nose-in-the-air look....

(much gnashing of teeth over the kaffir limes, which I do not yet have....grumble grumble....)

Ugh...been wanting a sun room so I could get those trees. This lil' ol' rancher just doesn't have the daylight needed...even in winter. g-nash g-nash...

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

I have the sun room...Its the trees that are supper hard to find here. so we're all in the same northern boat :-)

Four Winds does mail order. REALLY nice trees. Really.

Clarkson, KY

An avocado, a lime, a lemon, and a tangerine....and a room with enough sun they won't die...all on my list.

I have no room!! Wish I did.

We have the space and the climate to grow most fruit trees in some variety or other, and I have quite a collection (including an orange tree that morphed into a lemon tree , but that's a long story). What we lack recently is water. I don't think it will ever rain again! Most of the citrus trees are loaded with fruit and are almost too big to water effectively; the pear trees are producing miniature pears and the persimmons don't seem to be planning to fruit at all. I got one key lime. It will probably take a hurricane to get rain now. Not a good bargain.
