My wife almost stepped on this spider last night in the driveway. It measures about 2"X3" and little did I know until I took the pic it was carrying a Japanese Beetle. I live in Rock Hill SC thats 18 miles outside of Charlotte. Thanks for everyone's help.
A wolf spider or huntsman spider, I think. It wins points just for reducing the beetle population.! That is such a beautiful, healthy specimen.
