My pocket camera goes with me everywhere, so I'm sure to take some shots along the way. Unless I can find an "in house" computer somewhere I'll be cut off for a little while. My antique laptop poofed a while back, just haven't had the time to replace it with something worthy.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Wow That is one strange strange looking plant. I would almost be afraid to try that thing it might eat me ! LOL

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone. I'll pass on offering the doily on the auction site LOL looks like a bidding war has broke out between Cue and Starlight and I don't want to get in the middle they might get mean LOL Just teasing Cue. I know about the other thing swap for seeds forum just haven't had time to make much yet to offer. But that changes soon as I get this afghan done and another doily. Did I mention some lady is interested in maybe buying some for her shop when she opens? I'm still waiting to see about that though.
Oh and I heard from your friend in FL tonight Mekos says things are looking up for them.
I love Park's seed sale SMILE

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

oh wow! those are beautiful! you made those???? Im jealous.. Ive no such textile skills.. I cant even make a scarf... my mother tried to teach me how to crochet.. she finally gave up

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Yes maam I made those and have two more projects going right now. Crochet came natural for me just got showed how to chain and double crochet and I was off on my own afterwards. Thank you for the compliment.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

is that anything like 'pineapple' crochet/lace? where you use the teeeeeeny tiny thread?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

wow.. got someone wanting Black Pearl seeds

*makes mental note to purchase latex gloves to save seeds*

had to warn them that these peppers are hotter than [insert mythical place of eternal torment here]! they seemed ok with this... so be it

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Yes maam but all of those are done with the larger size of that kind of thread. The one I'm working on now is smaller size. I made the cutest snowflakes last year using the smallest size yet. And I have a wall hanging that just likes 7 more rows that is made from that sewing thread for jeans. Won't be usiing that size again though my eyes rebelled.
Congrats on getting rid of those pepper seeds. Maybe you should send them a pair of those gloves too LOL

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yeah, seeds and gloves . . .

Now who could resist that offer?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

lol. i just send seeds, with suggestions for handling..lol, they are on their own after that!

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Oh Mindy you have more patients than I do with crochet. I tried some of that kind and just got so upset with it I quit. I did most everything but that kind and just didn't like doing it.

I think it is beautiful and appreciate anyone that has the patients for it.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Thank you Flower. I switch between thread and yarn. I love to see the pictures come alive as I work the filet ones. The afghan I'm doing now would drive you nuts LOL it changes stitch patterns everytime it changes color just about.

Cue is just going to see if someone else will forget to heed the warning to wear gloves like she did LOL

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Nite you all I'm off to get the next color on that afghan before bed.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

night mindy

Leola, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi again everyone!

A co-worker gave hot pepper seeds today. He says it's from Kashmir, India. He'd been growing the pepper in Florida. And he said the plant can reach like 7-9 ft. I wonder what kind of hot pepper tree is that? I don't have much experience in gardening, but I think 7-9 ft is one gigantic hot pepper tree... Is anyone familiar with this type of hot pepper?

And about the park seed sale, ooooh it's so enticing! But I wonder if I should buy from park after reading all the feedback. Does anyone have any experience with park germination rate?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

I have bought from them and never had a problem. I know some have had problems with a couple of places I buy from but I haven't. I think that is just something you have to do your own judging on.

BTW Where on park seed is the sale going on I went to the site and didn't see any on sale.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

says seed sale on the left I think . . .

Hi Siichan

We used to buy all our veggies from Park. Germination rate was poor and switched to Johnny's Seed and Burpee's. Happier. Haven't tried their flowers.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

flower.. on parks site. look in the left column, you should see 'seed sale'

Good night everyone. Talk to ya tomorrow.

Leola, PA(Zone 6a)

Night Mekos!

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

morning all!

anyone here have extra sunflower seed or know where I can get them cheap? I dont need gigantic ones, 5-6ft tall is good, just wanted to try growing a few. dunno if its the right time to plant, but since our growing season is a bit longer than most, thought it couldnt hurt.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

well, decided to begin my 'lasagna garden' this weekend. which means I will have to dig up and transplant a few existing plants to move to another part of the garden. but, hoping the lasagna method will ensure at least a decent crop of veggies for fall, sine my summer veggies sorta pooted out on me.

hoping i can find enough material to fill the lasagna garden bed in by Sept 1... want to spend little if no money on this project. so.. any ideas you girls may have are all welcomed! I got cardboard to start it off, and tons of newspaper... and a daily supply of coffee grounds, and weekly supplies of grass clippings.. but anything else you can think of to builf it up would be great!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Good morning everyone.
Cue here's a link you might find helpful.

hey cue, i have sunflower seeds all you want i got them in bird seed and i have some just starting up now we should be okay if not you can have some next year

de blond

I think I remember someone bidding some on the other thread. Go look. Maybe starlight. anyway they were mammoth sunflower.
Morning ALL. Wishing you all a great day. We got a little sprinkles last night. I heard thunder and awful lightning and just knew we'd be flooded since it has been so long since we had decent rain, just got a sprinkle. But, it was wet. I'll take it. Keep dancing Cue. Could use a little bit more.LOL.Well, I'll check back in a little later. Cue, I don't know anything about las. gardening, wouldn't be any help. Lots of luck, and if I can help you find seed, let me know.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Cue - I've got "tons" of generic sunflower seeds. The smaller black seeds are the kind usually found in birdseed bags. Yes, you can plant them to make shorter 3' - 4' flower stems, and will usually grow quite well. The larger ones are Gray striped seeds, sometimes called "Mammoth" or "Giant Russian". These get really tall, sometimes 10 - 12' or so with huge seed heads. Both will attract birds to your garden in droves.

I can send either or both if you want.

Al

Morning everyone.

Cue: pine needles would work as well as leaves. Also a cheap bag of Black Kow goes a long way.

Mindy: Love to see a pic of the Afghan. My friend made me two for watching her kids while she took a class. Very simple three colors. That was 30 years ago and they are still useful and comfortable.

OK AL, I expect to see you over there on the bidding thread, I see you have seeds to spare. Un-Huh! I got a big stash here, what are some YOU are looking for? See if I can get some put up for bids later on. Let me know.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Seeing this is still the seed trade forum, here's what I have left. If you want or have a need for any of this stuff just write my D-mail and I'll send out in a couple of weeks when I'm back. All are seeds, most in commercial packs. If you want to swap, trade, or just send stamps that's okay with me.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone.
Seray I'll be sure to post the pic of the afghan for anyone who wants to look at it. Should be done by the weekend if not sooner.
Al you have d mail
Supposed to rain here for the next few days. I still need to get out there and weed the herbs. More interested in finishing up the aghan though.

HI Mindy. You are so talented. I crochet, but would never have patience for something as big as an afghan. My mother does. She has made so many in all colors and donates them to the appalachian people. She makes baby blankets and children clothes and afghans and quilts and pot holders, christmas ornaments , anything you could imagine and when the church group goes there before Christmas, she sends a years worth of sewing and crocheting with them. She also makes crocheted lap blankets for the nursing homes around here for patients to keep on their laps. She is 85 this August 4th. We're giving her a birthday party Saturday the 1st. You just remind me a lot of her.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Ah Mekos it is a honor to be told I'm alot like your mother. I do most of the things you mention she does but I don't sew I learned in school but never got into it. I only post current pictures of the stuff i've made I have others from the last few years since we got our digital camera. Most of what I make gets given away as gifts. It's alot cheaper for me to make things than buy them.
I've considered the lapghans for the nursing homes we have two in town. But alot of the ladies in there who are still able make them so it seems a bit pointless for me to do so. I'm still looking for a local charity though. My current notion is to make hats and mittens for school kids who don't have them. Strangely, I'm hearing alot of discouraging from people I would have thought would be willing to help me find out if they are really needed. I make some baby stuff but it's rare mainly because the babies don;t really care LOL as long as they are warm and loved. I love making things for toddlers though it's so cute to see them dragging their blankies around with them everywhere mom will let them take them.

You should do the hats and mittens and take them to the local elementary schools and donate them, I'm sure the kids would love them and it keeps them warm. I made a hat and scarf and shawl, for my grand kids and they really surprised me with how much, one in particular, wore hers. She wore the hat and shawl all the time. She was about 10 at the time. Now she has outgrown it, she has it put up where she can keep it as a keepsake for her, next generation, because it came from me. But kids love them. My fingers don't work good anymore to do much, I do good to just work in my gardens now.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

I dread the day I have to give it up my eyes are slowly getting to where it will be hard for me to do. Already having trouble working with some colors. LOL I recently gave two young ladies shawls. They didn't know what they were and when their mom told them one said she wasn't wearing hers if it made her look like an old lady. They both love them and play old ladies and old maid teachers with t hem now

Orlando, FL
