CLOSED: What is this?

I found this on my bathroom window on Friday evening. Once I'd taken a photo I ran away and closed the dooe. The next morning it had disappeared. Should I be worried or is it just a big house spider?

It is difficult to be at all certain from the image, but it could be a house spider or a relative in the genus Tegenaria - see http://tinyurl.com/mtkf69
At any rate, I am not aware of any spider species in the UK that is truly dangerous to humans, although a few are capable of inflicting a painful bite if handled carelessly..
