Texas Drought

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe we should all go out and do a raindance at midnight!!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry, at midnight I will be in dream land! LOL!

Sealy, TX

We got a good storm thru here yesterday afternoon - of course, I'd just put down some stuff to help keep the fire ants at bay! The only good thing I can say about drought - no mosquitos and the ants go underground!
We're supposed to get more rain today. Sure looks dark and ready outside this a.m. Praying that all of Texas gets what we need!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

It is early morning and we already got 1/3 of an inch.
The Wimberley area just 10 miles north of here received 2-4 inches just this morning.
More on the way........... I hope.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

Yeah! Whoo! GOD said let there be rain and there was rain.

I forget the last time my rain gauge had a solid 5" of rain in it. It all started before daylight when I awoke to rain pelting down on the cabin's metal roof. The lighting show was fantastic.

and it's still raining as I type this....

The only problem is I can't work in the garden today....too wet! LOL

Hope your wishes come true and you get some wet out of this system.

Jerry

4/10" so far...hoping for the full 5" like you got!

Sounds like a good excuse to put more nectar flowers out to me!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I ended up with 6/10th of an inch over a two hour period. I checked the soil and had water penetration from 3-5 inches. That is the best in a very long time. I didnt get anything at the orchard but the week is young.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I am very happy for all of you.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Aren't y'all glad I did a rain dance for you last night? Had to be for you 'cause we still don' have a quarter inch - yet! Keeping my fingers crossed,

Sealy, TX

Yay for Annette's rain dance! It's rained here all day - and Jerry, doesn't it sound great on a tin roof? I love sitting in my office when it's raining - It's downright inspiring!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, thank you, Annette! I'm waiting for the next rain...I believe it will be THE good one! And guess what already knew what was coming? My beloved Cenizos knew!

Those are really pretty, Linda. I don't think they would grow here, due to the humidity. Very little with grey foliage grows in these woods! I once had Lamb's ears live for two years, but I had it in a cinder block, planted in cactus soil.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Annette....I was dancing too last night, just happened to be up past one for a change and thought about the rain dance. I didn't go outside but my heart was with you guys. Glad you have better chances and more of them later in the week too.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

I think we all need a good shower. I hope we all get enough to lift the burn ban, at least for a short time. Enough time to do some clean up.

Think I'll try another dance!

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

Got another solid 1/2" this morning around daylight!

Again I awoke to the sound of rain hitting the metal roof. It was sweet. I just rolled over went back to sleet. First time I have slept to 8:30 since I don't know when.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Raining now - looks like this one may last a while. Showers yesterday. Don't think I've ever been so happy to see dark gloomy skies.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Almost 1/2 inch since the 4/10 inch of the other day, slow rain going on now. Hope lots more is on the way! Feels strange, to go out and not see crispy dry ground and heat!
This afternoon: 80% chance
Tomorrow: 70% chance

I received 6/10th yesterday and about 1/10th today. I am not complaining but look at what I have had for the last hour. I have been surrounded by rain for about 45 minutes and there is a hole in the middle of the storm. The rain is moving North fast but the hole just remains in the same place. Remember, I am not complaining since I am getting something. The arrow points to ME.

I have a time lapse of the rain for the last 3 hours. It was doing this for about an hour before I started. I think it is funny more than anything and I bet a lot of people can relate to this problem. We will call it the MAGIC FORCEFIELD. I did get showers at the orchard in the last frame. We have had rain today so I am happy but they got 2-6 inches all around me in the last day and a half. ENJOY THE SLIDE SHOW!

Here is about 2.5 hours into the storm. I am the arrow above and my orchard is the arrow below.

My brain started to turn to mush around this time.

Denial isnt just a river in Egypt!
This is about 4-5 hours into the storm. The magic forcefield is holding strong around San Marcos but the orchard was able to break the spell.

I just checked and we got 1/2 inch already today. That is 1.1 inches for two days. I am very happy. I bet the people around me are just doing cartwheels!!!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hope there is more where that came from.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

I just emptied 2.7" from the rain gauge. This plus the .5" this morning makes 3.2" for the day. Today and yesterday's total is 8.2". I don't think any of today's rain ran off. It was a slow rain that the ground eagerly soaked up.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I officially have to shut up. In the last two days I received 1.3 at home and 1.5 at the orchard. You are right TXROCK. There was no run off at all.

The weird thing is that everyone is burning right now. I was driving around at dusk and there were fires dotting the distance in all directions.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

jujubetexas, 1.3" is good.

I just checked and our burn ban was lifted today at 11:30. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow. I have a few small brush piles waiting to be burned.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We received a two inch blessing this afternoon, it was wonderful!!

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

We didn't get any rain today, and yesterday's was only about 3/16". It's someone else's turn to do the rain dance!!!! We have a pile of brush to burn, also. Went by the ranger station today, and the sign in front said that the fire danger was low, but they didn't know if the burn ban had been lifted in Walker Co., so I need to search it out!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I just sent you a 2 inch rainfall telekinesis mind blast. I hope it works.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

It's much appreciated! Maybe when the week is over, we will all have had enough to get out of the drought situation.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I almost have Stockholm Syndrome from the drought. I almost felt sad that I wasnt out there watering my plants today. That is just messed up.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Just think - now you have time to look at all those flower and seed catalogs that you gave up on, because you have to water to get anything to grow! Or find replacement plants for the ones you need to replace!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, I don't think it'll be too long until we have to water again. The sun will be back, don't know how hot, but it'll be hot!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Forgot to add...I'm in no hurry, let it RAIN! A week more rain with no sun would be good. Last night, we got about 1 1/4 inches! Love to put an "s" on inch. The plants are partying...never seen such a turnaround. New blooming, all the Salvia greggis are blooming except one! The white one is my favorite, beautiful! Also Velvetleaf Mallow and Mealy Blue Sage. Things are germinating out there. I have a feeling many Lion's Ear and Purslane are up.
This afternoon: 90% chance
Tomorrow: 60% chance
Like I said, keep it coming! I yelled at the weatherman on TV when he mentioned the word E-N-D. Now that it's getting good, that word can't be used. I like it just fine. Rainy season? No problem! But just remember, this is not from El Nino. We have to wait until that starts to affect us, anytime from mid-October to December.
Note: Today: just raised to 100% chance! Whee! This is SO fun...had forgotten this fun! Can't remember the last time we had 100% chance of rain! Gotta go buy a new rain gauge...I broke it!

Linda, I am right there in spirit rejoicing with you, I know you have been waiting for that rain for a very long time.
Josephine.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

My backyard has about 1 million sprouts right now. That is not an exaggeration.
I am so glad that Linda received over an inch. Now both of us have to find a new hobby other than complaining for the next week or two.
