My fiance and I just moved into our new house. The front porch seems to draw a lot of spiders. We have seen a couple black widows and last night we found this one in front of the door, and definitely the biggest one we have seen so far. I appreciate anyone that can help us identify it.
This is a female wolf spider (family Lycosidae), possibly Hogna carolinensis - see http://tinyurl.com/exrw9 for an image. This is the largest wolf spider in the USA.
