I have dug up very small Agaritas in the past and got them to survive. It's tricky, but it can be done. I put one back by my new shed this year....still alive. Brasil, Condalia hookeri, is a small tree that has nice little berries, tasty ones also. Not that many berries this summer because of the heat and drought, but mine is doing the best it can.
need ideas for native trees and shrubs
I will have tons of seeds next year from my neighbors Agarita. I also have Leatherleaf Mahonia which is a relative but more upright. The funny thing is that it loves the shade. I have watered mine about three times this year even though they didnt look like they needed it. Edible but nasty tasting. BITTER! I think they have to be dead ripe or shriveling. Otherwise, a very unusual (no cares) plant.
well i will try to go to rohde's in a week or two. i'd go today but i have no money.
do you have a plant of the mahonia, jujube?
I have two or three but they are big and in the ground. I dont know if you can do clippings but if so, I could send you clippings of the neighbors Agarita.
jujube if i can't find a plant i just might like to try the cuttings. and you are saying that this plant prefers the shade? but not regular agarita?
Agarita likes sun and Leatherleaf Mahonia prefers partial shade.
agarita is what i need then as my yard is mostly sun.
