Lysimachia congestiflora ... best way to propagate

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I've just purchased this plant and a kind gardener in Plant ID helped me id it. Now that I know what it is, I'd like to try propagating it for use as a filler in a dappled shade area to help break up the monotony of the thin leaf mongo grass that is growing there.

Any tips on how to make babies from this beautiful little plant?

Mary, I don't have the same Lysmachia you have - I have the golden "creeping Jenny", but I've noticed that the trailing, spreading parts have rooted easily to the ground. Assuming that yours might do the same, you could wait until a branch roots firmly, cut it from the mother plant and transplant it to the area you want. If not, MoBot (Missouri Botanical Gardens) says it starts easily from seeds, so watch for those blooms and don't deadhead everything.

Best of luck!

My thanks, Sheryl.

I went out and took a look and sure enough, I found a long'ish growth. Will pin it to the ground and wait for some roots to develop.

The little yellow blooms that were on it when I purchased it have dropped off. I'll watch for new blooms and check after they've withered and dropped, to learn how to recognize the seed pods.

I also purchased some Creeping Jenny at the same time, not realizing they were of the same family. I plan to plant her in a big pot on the deck in combination with other plants.

My thanks once again for taking the time to reply.

Gladly!

The only suggestion that I was given with the Creeping Jenny (purchased at an herb show) was that they like plenty of water - that would be double for you, if you're keeping her in a pot, I would suppose. Mine is also getting full sunshine - whenever the sun shows up around here. Very nice little plant. Enjoy!
