didnt know where else to post this.
i want some pumpkins for indoor AND outdoor decorating. the realistic (fake) ones i saw were a little expensive. I heard that you can use real ones, as long as there is no cut in it, it will stay good for months. I am plannins on using it for about 2 1/2 months anyway. Now, can this be done? What happened if the pumpkins outside get a little wet from rain? will they rot or stay okay? thanks for the info!

real vs. fake pun'kins
Oh,CoCoSeed, you and your pumpkins. Going to make me a pie are you? HA HA....that will be the day.
The pumpkins will be coming out in stores soon. Keep your britches on and be patient,as Halloween will be just next month. Now, for those for outside that you want to place. Put a sealer on them and that should work. Just make sure there are no cuts or nicks in them or they will rot. Now, if you want some of the fake ones, I will check around and see what I can get for you.I think I have 1, but it's mine. I do have other fall decorations that you can borrow if you want. Let me know. Let's see, I did say borrow, didn't I? What the heck, you can use what you want. Haven't even gotten my fall decorations out yet. Dug through and got my Christmas recipes out tho. Guess I should be getting my fall wreath out and all that other good stuff.
Outside pumpkins, once cut, will last longer if you keep them out of direct sun. If they start to shrivel some, you can soak them in cold water and they will perk back up. I saw that on some tv show years ago and it really does work. It won't help you now, but watch the stores after Halloween, and the prices go way down. Maybe you can stock up for next year. I have also noticed a lot of people around here throw out really great decorations, gourds, etc right after Halloween and Thanksgiving. Keep your eyes open. You never know what may be sitting on the side of the road. :)
Hi Cocoseed. Are you really Coco's seed? Anyway,I do not like to cut my pun'kins. We just paint a face on outside w/permanant marker.Add some 'hair' and hat.I had one that lasted 4ever! I kid u not!We finally got rid of it, as it was slumping alowly b/c the bottom was the first to soften and rot.It must've lasted like 4 months! Of course,I make sure not to spend too much on them like when they first come out ,since we don't use them for pumpkin pies.Just decoration.Just my 2 cents here.Jane ..Zone 7
Yes, luvublooms, she is really my seed. My youngest daughter. That is why I can get away saying some of the things that I do on here. She's really getting to be pretty crafty (at crafts, that is)hehe. She really decorates her place up really nice.Think that is why she wants just the smaller pumpkins,is for decorating for the fall. Have another daughter,Donut Queen, but don't hear from her much on here. She is very busy with 4 children, working and taking college courses,so not much time for her to be on DG>
This month's Southern Living showed some gorgeous decorations made from pumpkins. They stacked them three high, skewering them on something - rebar perhaps. Made a topiary of sorts. I have no idea how long they'll last once you puncture them, but they are very pretty. If you don't subscribe, look at any newstand - they're on the front cover.
Coco, ooo I just hate to think of the upcoming holidays.I know we must go on.I didn't even realize how close they are!But I was reminded of fall today when I saw this house by the school, all decorated w/fall color leaves, etc. So pretty but yet so sad.
On a lighter note, nice to hear about your crafty daughter.Bet she takes after you.
you people crack me up. i found some really nice looking pumpkins that were fake, but a little expensive so i will go ahead and get real ones once they come out and put a sealer on them like COCO said. I LOVE fall-my fav time of year...so last week of august is when u put my fall decorations out... just wnat to get some pumpkins and i will be pretty much set. :-) thanks for the offer mom, i just might get some decorations from you after u decided what you will and will not use this year. :-)
