I live in the Pacific Northwest. I've never seen this critter before. Who is he?

It's a wood-boring beetle called the banded alder borer, Rosalia funebris:

Thanks, that's it all right. He/she is just hanging around on our back deck (cedar). I think I'll relocate it to our 'dead zone' out back where the beavers have successfuly drowned a whole stand of alders. Deb
