Huge Walking Stick

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

I just found this very large walking stick on the outside of my house. It is about 9 inches long. Just wanted to know what kind it is and if it is dangerous. Looks very scarry to me.

Heya ff!!
Dunno what type of walking stick it is, but they are really cool and not dangerous. It thinks you can't see it there, lol! What a nice find.
Hope you're doing well:)

I don't think they pose any danger to you. My sons used to catch them and let them ride around the yard on their shirt front. They would also have walking races with them before turning them loose again.

there is one, though, that you wouldn't want to fool with. it's best to leave all insects alone until you know for sure what you're dealing with. we have loads of these guys here.

Oh No..That does it. After reading that link I am going to get rid of this thing. I will be armed with goggles and what ever else I can put on my face for protection. I have a lot of plants on my porch and it must be hiding in them at night as I saw it on the wall again today. I have a stray dog too that hangs around on the front porch.

well, i shouldn't have posted the link. yours is not the one that spits. i was only adding it for educational purposes.

I'm not sure of the exact species here, but it definitely is not the one to worry about (Anisomorpha buprestoides) - see http://tinyurl.com/ljdchw for an image.

Still, this thing freaks me out. Texas grows them big...
