I have been finding these spiders in my home for a few years now and am concerned. They are small (the ones I've found have been about half a centimeter), shiny black, large spherical abdomen, and have a red stripe down their backs all the way to the abdomen. I have googled them - and FOUND them on the internet. They look exactly like Australian redbacks. There is just one small problem here. I live in Tennessee. I haven't ever been to Australia, had anything delivered from Australia, and don't have any Australian plants. Does anyone know what kind of spider this is, since theoretically, it can't be an australian redback? I have seen many widows in my lifetime, and these spiders seem to be a little small to be mature - they have no white or brown markings. To date, I have found 6. Someone please help me!

Maybe an ant mimic spider?

There was an on-going thread about this here recently, and they said the same thing about them looking like the Australian redback spider.

trackinsand, i read that one. it's what led me to post my own because my spider is definitely not the one in the other post, but thanks. I wish I was brave enough to get a picture before i squished them.
