Don't know how much we got but I am jumping up and down with the cooler temps!! My computer says it is currently 74!
Went out on the deck just now and checked the gauge, it was below 1/4" here, but still welcome the clouds.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

YIPPEEEEEEE! Isn't it lovely? Just when I was starting to think that we were in for unrelenting heat for the rest of the summer.

Only a quarter-inch here, too but I'm celebrating - Weather Bug says that it's still only 75º at Arlington Municipal - brrrrrrr! - and there are enough clouds to allow me to do some of the more strenuous chores. :)

Hope everyone gets the rain they need, today!

Well, I was so excited about the rain and I had a Giant Swallowtail to release that eclosed this morning.
So I decided to go to the Fielder house garden and release it there, and rejoice about everything being wet, but guess what? not a drop over there, so I guess it was rather spotty.
I was so disappointed, but we take what we can get right? nevertheless the butterfly flew off beautifully.

I released two BST today. Had been concerned that they might not get sun, but there it was beating down in plenty of time.

(Elizabeth) DFW Area, TX

I don't think I had ever seen a swallowtail in my life until a couple of weeks ago and now I've seen two. No idea what's bringing them to my yard, unless it's the mister system. Next year, I'm going to plant all kinds of stuff just for the butterflies.

Need to read this article from Mrs_Ed.

We just got a sprinkle, but there were clouds and cooler temps, so I'm happy with that. More rain predicted for the weekend and the early part of next week. At this point in the year, I'll take what we get!

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe we had rain cause the cars were very dirty, but I didn't see any. Love this cooler weather. Even the xeriscape bed was looking very tired so we can all use a break.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

With the exceptional drought at the point it is at, only some real rain will help here. We got only a (few minutes) teaser sprinkle so far, hardly even a drop in that big dry bucket. And may the Lord help the people in Kendall Co. who are at Stage 5 water restrictions, Stage 6 is coming if they don't get enough rain! But yes, I'm very, very thankful for the lower temps, the clouds and the chance of rain to come...today or tomorrow would be convenient, anytime at all in fact. I can almost hear the footsteps and chanting of rain dances and the quiet murmur of rain prayers being uttered today! Bring it on please!
quilter_gal, have you seen the urls for lists of plants on the Hummingbird and Butterfly Forum, see the sticky at the top if you haven't already.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm afraid the kind of rain we really need will only come with a hurricane hitting, and we certainly don't need that on the coast!! El Nino is back, so no telling what that will bring!

Glad to hear many of you are receiving at least some rain......I thought about you and yours, Linda,...when the weatherman stated that the rain pattern MAY make it over near your area.....We've been fortunate to get a shower each day for the past 3 days...not a lot of rain...but it did rain steady yesterday afternoon....for about 20 minutes....enough to make the "dead-lookin'" grass blades/stems not rustle when you walked thru it (smile). Dee & I had to start last week off with a "drought-related" expense - our water well downhole pump went....down south! It did serve this house for 22 years with no problems...so,...it was due...BUT....it would've been nice to wait another year (sniff
sniff). I'm sure with the way things have been....all the watering we've been doin'...just to keep things alive,...has taxed it greatly.
The man who pulled and replaced our pump...claimed that the water table is dropping in our area...our pump was a mere 5 ft below the surface (220 ft below)...we dropped the pump another 60 ft down and have beautiful, cold, tasteless water.........oh yeah,....it cost us about $10 a foot....about $2200 for the complete job...ugh! Never a good time!

Grapeland, TX

I think we got approx. 2 inches altogether friday and saturday! yahoo!!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Beautiful butterflies, grits! Sorry about your pump going out, Lee. That's called biting the bullet! The RO for the local water system was finally repaired and we've got good water pressure now. We still have 20% chance of rain tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Good luck on that 20%, Linda! I'll keep mine crossed for you! Right now,...we've a lot of rumbling thunder...but no rain so far.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Gorgeous butterflies Grits, thank you for posting those pictures.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry about your water pump Lee, but at least you have been getting some rain, we haven't had any more rain since the 1/2 inch the other day.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We got a stray thunder cloud and it dropped about .33 in the gauge. Only lasted about 20 minutes but the plants and me loved it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila, we got about 1/4", but I like your numbers better! LOL I know the plants appreciated it and I appreciated the cloud cover. There's supposed to be more coming early next week. Praying it makes it!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL! Well DH could have sprinkled a bit in the gauge when he watered last night. Regardless it was delightful to have it!

Talihina, OK

To Lee, small world I have actually been to Willis my sis and B.I.L have some property there it is near a small lake ,they just bought it as a spec. kind of thing as they live in Conroe...

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi grits!

If ever you're down in this area ....give us a shout! My DW & I lived in Conroe for a number of years back in the 80's.
I'm a native Houstonian.....but avoid goin' there if I can....too crowded & busy for me! Talihina sounds like a place I'd like to live....must be an native American (Am. Indian) name/word

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, it is raining in Arlington again, thank God. My workday got a little interrupted, but hey I will trade rain for work any day.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We've had rain all morning and it's been wonderful!! Too bad I've had to be at work instead of at home taking a snooze! LOL I'll take all we can get!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I worked out in the rain for a little bit but it just isn't the same as taking a nap. LOL!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

All who are in College Station, I do hope you are ok. I was luckily on the outer edge of the storm we just had. A funnel cloud was reported in College Station earlier this evening, with up to golf ball sized hail and downpours. I saw a picture on tv of a funnel cloud across from my lab, and I am currently hoping that the power isn't out there. Too close for comfort for everyone here I am sure, despite the rain.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Goodness sounds like it was a scary time. Hope others down that way faired ok and will check in. Guess it didn't get your greenhouse then?

Talihina, OK

Well folks it is raining again in Talihina Ok it is a nice slow rain started at 11 A.M. and now at 4PM it is still raining around 1/2" so far Thanks for the nice words about my pix and Lee Talihina is a Choctaw word meaning Iron Road (railroad) we are located at the western end of the Talimena National Scenic By-way with Mena Ar. being on the eastern end ..I do urge anyone that wishes to see a very scenic portion of the Quachita Mountains to take this drive ..From East Texas Take Hi way 71 from Texarkana to Mena from the Dallas area take 75 to Durant and then then a variety of ways to get to Talihina ,,

Cleburne, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know the total but it had been raining for at least an hour when I went to bed last night, nice slow rain. Don't know how long it lasted but everything is very wet this morning. How wonderful !!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We ended up with 1/2" of rain yesterday. Most of that came late last night in a heavy downpour. I enjoyed the clouds, periodic light rain, and cooler temps.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know exactly how much we got because the gauge had water in ti from before, but I would say about two inches, it rained long and hard here, such a blessing!!!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

We received three inches here in San Marcos. Unfortunately it was three inches of a dust storm. I tried watering my plants with the dust but they still look thirsty.

Sorry, we didnt really have a dust storm. I was just being a brat. Still hoping for rain but doesnt look good. Come on sea breeze showers!!!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Not going to happen, jujube. Triple digits instead of rain in the forecast. We should just accept it's not going to rain, and hope enough of our plants survive until fall to start over. But I really am glad there's still rain in this state...looking forward to fall.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Ya. I invested about four thousand dollars in plants for the house and orchard since the drought. I just give them enough to hang on. I bet their root system will be nice and deep if they make it. So at least I have that.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, we've gone from not enough during the normally rainy spring to 5" or more in two days (this is the height of our normally hot, dry season here in East Texas). The sun's finally out here in Gilmer, but not before water came in from our patio and soaked part of the den carpet. The sun's finally out, but there's a possibility of more...

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I love watching plants the day after a big rain plump up.
Enjoy!

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

We got 1 1/8" in the last 24 hours
