the glory of morning

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

A poem written by pajonica today, reflecting today's experience.

I stood and watched the stars fade as light filled the eastern sky.
The very first to see as sunrise filled my eye.
I turned away to see long shadows, dancing in the morning breeze.
The very first to breathe the air this morning gave to me.

I stood and watched the sunset gold, giving way to pink, then gray.
Feeling I had lost forever, yet another day.
I turned away again, seeing long shadows slowly fading.
Giving way to darkness shades, I could see the milky way.

The stars were beautiful this night, they showed me how to see.
The wonder of our world, so fragile and dependant. on all that we can see.

If I ever get the nerve to adjust my neighbor's porch lights with a BB gun, then I'll be able to see what you see. Until then, your poem is a lovely gateway to the stars via the imagination. I enjoyed your poem very much.

Thanks all!
Karen I was standing on the edge of a rice field in total darkness, I know how lucky I am to be able to do that,.
truly inspiring. My poem does not come even close to my feeling. Just a little more than saying that's beautiful.

I loved the poem, and a lot of nature lovers can relate to the beauty of night time that your eloquence brings to memory.

I suggest a quick minute of reading about this topic on Wikipedia.org, enter into the search box:

Cherry Springs State Park

It discusses the recent development of creating "dark sky" locations for enjoying the night sky.

It even mentions that starlight from the Milky Way is strong enough to cast a visible shadow! Who knew that a moonless night could still be light enough to see by?!?

In the UK I was an active member of the dark sky society. If only just a few nights a year all the lights were turned off, everyone could see what they're missing and never want them on again. Think about the energy saved!
Join together petition the government and together we can change it! Yes we can! I forget the figures but the light
from a starry night is measurable and strong enough to see by and of course awesome food for the soul.

Very cool poem and topic. I have the pleasure currently of living in a neighborhood that does not have street lights and the neighbors are elderly and go to bed early. So few lights on at night! The night sky is beautiful as is a stroll at night in the garden. A whole different world in the garden after the sun goes down! :-)

The earth turns to reveal the stars at night, yet we chose to be blinded by our own light.

Thanks all
