Could have lunch at an Indian place on Thursday. I'm a little adventurous but not a lot. Anybody have a suggestion? Not too hot/spicy.
What should I try at the Indian restaurant?
Sally,
Indian is one of my favorite ethnic food. You could order a flat bread, called "Naan" which can come either plain, or studded with garlic to accompany your meal.
For main dish, you could order a mild 'curry' originated in India. This can be eaten sopped up with a naan, or plain rice. Most restaurants will serve a dish of rice to go with any entrees. Good Indian restaurants serve basmati rice.
When it comes to curry, if they have one that says "Korma".. it's delicious, very aromatic and not spicy at all.
Now when it comes to choices of meat, Hindu is the main religion, so very rarely (unless the owner's a Muslim) you'll find beef. It's always, chicken, lamb or mutton.
Or if you prefer something dry.. try the 'tandoori' chicken. Pieces of meat that's marinated with spices and yogurt and then grilled. My DH loves this dish as it isn't spicy.
Most of the Indian restaurants we know of, don't serve veges with their entrees. You normally have to order them. Again, order one mild.
But if you're having lunch, you might be served lunch specials where veges are included.
A lot of the menus will have English descriptions, so you won't be lost.
Picture is of Cedric, the travelling frog with his buddy Shoney dining with us at an Indian restaurant.
DH has tandoori in front of him, basket of garlic naan on the side, and I had Briyani.
Hope you have a wonderful international dining experience.
Jaye
Thanks Jaye. Looks like you have a lot of fun with that crew!
So, what did you have? I like Indian food quite a bit. If you like spinach there is a dish called Sag Paneer which is my favorite. Not too spicy.
Hey, it was all pretty tasty! They only have a buffet at lunch, small place and not busy. Anyway, I think one was labeled Sag something (Sambala?), which looked and tasted spinachy. I wrote some names but that's upstairs somewhere. Oh, there was vegetable Korma, a very mild curry, two kinds of Masala (lentil beany) plain toasted bread triangles, chai tea...I was too shy to engage the bored looking servers in conversation adn quiz them on ingredients. But even tho I have never tasted anything like it, or even seen anything like it (all green and brown and saucy) it all tasted good. (Chicken Tandoori- yum)
Good for you Sally!
My favorite Korma was Grandad's Chicken Korma. Not even my mum could beat his!
When you do return to try more.. ask the owner to explain to you what's involved in cooking the dishes. He'd be more than thrilled to turn you into an Indian food fan ;)
Kel and I love to try new dishes and fortunately, USA being a melting pot, is perfect for foodies like us.
