CLOSED: Swarm of bugs eating my clematis all in ONE DAY What is it!

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

This bug is one of about a thousand that have swarmed my lady banks rose and clematis. There were some black squiggly things on leaves and then we had a massive rain, now my plant was eaten almost to the core in one day! HELP!

These are blister beetles (Coleoptera: Meloidae) in the genus Epicauta - see http://tinyurl.com/nx2npx for an image and http://tinyurl.com/n594ma for detailed information.

How do I kill it?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

From the information listed in the second link, it looks like you can use any of the pesticides recommended for beetles: Sevin, diazanon, pyrethrins, etc. Check the labels at the garden center to make sure the plants you want to use it on will not be adversley affected by the poison. Sevin is pretty much safe as you can use it on vegetables, and the same for pyrethrins as they are made from the flower seeds of the Pyrethrin "daisy".
