I am sorry, but this thing is just nasty....what is it ? G
CLOSED: Bug
This resembles a nymph of a cockroach. How big was it, and where exactly was it when you photographed it?
It was about 1 3/8" long, on my patio....G
I think my cat had been playing with it, so it may be missing a leg or two....G
There are at least two possibilities: (1) It could be a wood cockroach (Parcoblatta sp.), see http://tinyurl.com/mews72 for an example. These are common in wooded areas, but do not form colonies indoors. (2) It could be a one of the larger peridomestic species such as the oriental cockroach, Blatta orientalis - see http://tinyurl.com/mu7y94 for an example. However, if this were the case, I suspect that you would have noticed some signs of them indoors. If you see another one of these, try to take a photo from directly over it rather than from somewhat sideways as in your current image.
I didn't realize there was many types of wood cockroaches. The light colored flying type is what I normally see here. You may be on to something....G
