New England Lily Show 2009

Poland, ME

Yesterday I took a drive, a very long drive, to Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in Bolyston, MA to the 50th anniversary show. Traffic was terrible in MA and even worse coming home. But I did see some pretty flowers and got to talk to Warren Summers, the hybridizer of Trogon and Rosella's Dream. Warren used to live in CT but has since moved to Michigan, but returned for the anniversary party. Warren took best in show with this stem of Red Velvet. Man I wish I could grow lilies that look like this! And he grows all organic.

This was also on the head table. It's a L/O but I wasn't familiar with the name but was told it was from B & D.

Also on the head table, Easter Morn (left) and another of Warren's seedlings.

Well, I guess that's all the decent photos, friends! It was interesting and fun but way too long of a ride for the 2 hours I spent there.

Wonderful pictures. I believe the crown you show to be 'First Crown' . I'd love to attend a lily show sometime. Never have been to one and between you and llilyfan, it looks to be an experience worth the effort.

So what interesting things did you learn from Warren about those 2 lilies of his?

I was on his team of Judges at NALS this year and his way of approaching a daunting task of judging a table full of stems made it go from overwhelming to done in a short time. It was great to listen to his point of view on different stems as we were considering them, I imagine he critiques his seedlings in a similar manner.

I think you have a pic of Katinka there. Glad you made the trip to the show ~ must have been a heady experience with so many trumpets there.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

That isn't the Shirley I've in my garden.

Can't wait for this coming weekend. The Lily Festival in Neepawa, home of Lily Nook. A whole lily weekend. Yum yum. Not many asiatics blooming yet. It ias been too cold for too long.

Today was our Martagon show. Wonderful stems. some super seedlings..

Yes, Moby, that's the correct name. Warren and I chatted and he showed me pictures of his yard and the NALS show. He is a master showman. I believe he had three on the head table, maybe more.
