Hi! I am visiting in Northeast Montana and my friends saved a strange insect their cat was playing with. We took photos by a dollar bill for size comparison, as you can see it is quite large. Is it familiar to anyone? I have photos from other angles as well, sorry the wings are a bit beat up, the cat messed it up a bit.
Moth/Butterfly/dragonfly? Very large and unusual looking
This is a giant silk moth (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae); most likely a cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia - see http://tinyurl.com/m437ve
