Hello Again Plumie Friends!

Hi All,

I decided to join again today. Do you know how many annoying pop up ads there are for nonsubscribers? Wow. Anyway, I thought I would pop in and say hi.

Life has been extremely hectic since I left. We bought a house, remodeled it completely, and then moved. And then we remodeled it some more! I've planted about 100 plumerias in the ground so far and have about 50 more to go. That will leave me with about 50 left in containers.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi to my old plumie friends here. I probably won't have much time in the future for reading and answering questions like I used to, but I'll try to pop in and post pictures when I can.

Here are a couple more pictures of my landscaping in progress. These trees are probably too close together, but I can always prune them.

Here is a little side garden that I put in that has two sago palms, two bananas, pink breath of heaven, lavender, butterfly gingers, calla lilies, and a lily.

Here is another recently planted area with bananas, elephant ears, nasturtiums, and, of course, 'Dwarf Singapore Pink' among others.

This is the front of our house, which we planted with pygmy date palms and queen palms on each end. More later!

Welcome back! It must have been a lot of work to plant so many plumerias. I have always been hesitant to plant in the ground because of the potential of winter root rot, but after seeing photographs of your garden, I think I should give it a try.

Hi Lorien, thanks! As long as your drainage is good, you shouldn't experience root rot. I water about once a week in winter believe it or not. LOL! I don't lose my leaves usually until January or February if I lose them at all. Once it gets down to 40, then they start dropping. There are many trees planted in Camarillo in the ground so I say go for it! Nice pink by the way!

This pretty unnamed pink is starting to bloom. We are finally getting some heat today. It has a strong carnation fragrance.

'Salmon Brown' from Kukiat in Thailand opened its first flowers today:

One of my first plumerias and one of my favorites, a yellow from Aloha Palms:

This multi-branched tree has 11 different cultivars grafted on to it. Two of them have inflo's, and one, Spidery Yellow, is blooming.

O-M-G! Talk about a forest of plumerias! That will look incredible when leafed out and bloomed! I can't wait to see! Grow, grow, open, open! lol

holy moley! that's not a plumeria grove, it's a forest. very nice digs there clare. hmmm...did someone win the lottery??? :D what a sight that will be once they are all leafed out and blooming. i want a personal garden tour okay!?! LOL

i didn't understand the part about remodeling, moving and remodeling some more...

Love that castle stone! you really went over the top everything looks great your plants look good and healthy! Did not see any brugs you use to be a big fan of those. You have enough to keep busy thats for sure looking good :)

Robin, there are six rows of plumerias in the back, and two rows along the side. There will be more planted in the front. It's definitely a project in progress. My DH wants to see some diversity so I've been planting split-leaf philo's, palms, magnolias, bananas and other things where they will fit. I'll upload some more photos as time allows.

Dete, it definitely will be a forest. The plumies are planted between 6 and 8 feet apart, which is too close, I fear. In time, they will crowd each other so I guess I will have to prune. I think that I may make more multi-grafted trees in the future, which will allow me to have less trees but the same number of cultivars.

I agree that they will look much better when they are all leafed out and blooming. I am starting to see some more blooms open today, including your MVG Pink, which is really Cancun Pink;-) It's lovely. The heat is finally here so the blooms are opening. I'll post some flower pics in a bit.

The remodeling comment was trying to explain that we remodeled this house for two months in October and November before we moved in in December. We knocked down walls, raised the ceilling, put on a new roof, new Tex Cote, new windows, new sliders, etc. There are new bamboo floors, new tile in the bathrooms, new fixtures -- just about a new everything. Once we moved in -- moving was hugely stressful -- we continued to do remodeling projects like pavers in the driveway and, most recently, the removal of a chainlink fence and ivy that had been there for 30 years. Dana, thanks so much. We like the stone too. In fact, we add stacked stone to the fireplace and island in the kitchen. I also have a rooted cutting of a pink one and the variegated Maya, but I haven't figured out where to plant it yet. Brugs are so very messy, and DH is always complaining about plants that drop stuff so they will have to go toward the back somewhere.

This is one of my favorite plumerias. It's a dwarf Singapore seedling from Kukiat. It had an inflo, but it got broken off by accident. I had planted it in the ground, but when a gopher made an appearance near it, I dug it up and put it in a pot because I couldn't stand to lose this one. It has so many branches that I couldn't begin to count them.

On the dwarf plumie, interesting how thick the branches are. what color blooms?

The madagascar palm I have a customer that has one he planted behind the house and never did anything to it hes here for the winter. No kidding its 5-6 ft tall really cool looking I tried to buy it from him hes not parting with it. Have to take a picture of it never been protected from the cold but there is a big tree that is what has saved it when it gets to 20's. I keep mine too close and when the rust starts it blows right threw them I have to do some rethinking I picked up a verigated brug at a show it will have a white flower. It seems to like the sun my verigated are finally starting to grow they just grow slow.

The tag is for DG'ers to find your threads/photos. They'd find them anyway even without a tag. I just made it easier for DG'ers to add other photos and threads of your plumeria progress so you're kind of all in one place, so to speak. This was not broadcast on the web by me. Oh, no.

So, next time I want to see "Clare's Plumeria", I can look you up and see other threads people have added to that "tag". It's all for the ease of internal seaching.

Hi Dana! My variegated Brug Maya is blooming right now, and it reminded me how lovely brugs are. I will plant it for sure. I think the variegated ones seem to do a little better with some shade so I'm going to plant it in an area that gets afternoon shade. I got my Madagascar Palm at Home Depot. It was about $22.

Hi Dete, I understand. I still have mine tagged as MVG Pink also, but I have done a side-by-side comparison with my 'Cancun Pink' and feel sure that it's the same. In fact, C-Star's nursery's 'Playful' is also 'Cancun Pink.' Whatever it's true name, it's a nice pink. Thanks for sharing it with me:-)

Azrobin we are on vacation and spending the night in Fort McDonald. Your part of the country is absolutely breath taking and the opposite of Baton Rouge. I talked with my son and he said they had a shower this afternoon and there was 5" on the road. Our 3 A/Cs are struggling under this heat to keep up. But the casino was nice and cool and the machines were hot!!!! LOL!!!
