any idea what this creepy bug is?

Red Lodge, MT(Zone 4a)

I found this bug outside in my flowers, I've not seen one like it before. Anyone know what it is?

I think this might be an Asian Lady Beetle. I don't know the Latin name. Google that and see if it's your bug.

Hmmm. Maybe I suppose. It did remind me of a ladybug, but there aren't any spots and it is much much larger. I don't think Montana is supposed to have asian lady beetles. Uh oh. I guess they aren't that bad.

Some are all one color. No, they aren't too bad unless they come in your house. They eat aphids, too.

I would wait for the experts to confirm or deny my statement. I could be off the mark.

I think it's a Two-spotted Ladybeetle, Adalia bipunctata. They're awfully similar, but the Asian ladybeetle has white in the center of its face, and Adalia's is black. And the Two-spotted / Adalia is reported in Montana.
Not real sure though.

This is indeed a lady beetle (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) - it appears to be Anatis lecontei - see http://tinyurl.com/nnqntl for an image. There does not appear to be any image of this species on davesgarden - see http://tinyurl.com/l6rwn4

I am pretty sure you are right. It looks to be the Anatis lecontei and fits the description perfectly. I will do a bit more research to make sure, but it looks right!

Perhaps you could add you pic to the BugFiles, MT.
