We were on our way home from MI the other day and had to pull off the road. Dogs and kids were yelling they had to pee. We ended up back in the woods. Miles and miles of dirt road, woods with huge trees and undergrowth. It was beautiful. Anyway, we pulled over since there was nothing in site, pulled out the kids and told them to go behind a tree. I started walking the dogs. Being a gardener, I started paying attention to the undergrowth. It was acres and acres and more acres of Mayapples, Trilliums and Solomon's seal. It was a plant russlers dream. The Mayapples had fruits the size of small tangerines, that's how undisturbed it was, they were up to my knees in height.
No, I didn't dig up anything. I was a good girl. I just took away a fantastic memory. I didn't get to take any pics. Hubby was in his come on the worlds going to end if we lose one second of time mode.
Just wanted to share

off topic, but I have to share
What a nice treat!
And the mayapples, trilliums and solomon's seal were only what you saw then. Think of all the other ephemeral flowers that would be blooming earlier!

I can't think of living anywhere else... except January - March... lol! I would take anywhere above 40 degrees!! lol!! The woods are beautiful this time of year.. At the power line behind my house I can see the ocean, the mountains and a lake... kinda cool!
Never heard of a mayapple... How nice to find those things way out in the woods!
If it was Northern Mich thats where tons of Morelle mushrooms grow.
OR was it Mississippi?
don't you just love it when you get one of those moments....like a little treasure that is all yours!
