I found this on one of my blackberry lilies today and I'm wondering if it's beneficial or not.
CLOSED: Small Spiny Green Insect
This is a nymph of a treehopper (Hemiptera/Auchenorrhyncha: Membracidae - see http://tinyurl.com/mzrg59 for an example. These all feed on plant sap, but only a few species become abundant enough to be serious pests.
Cool looking little thing!
Thank-you suunto!
I'm off to do more research in a minute (thanks to your ID), but in just a quick image search I've found something that doesn't sound promising.
A photographer said: "Nymphs can't be identified as to species, but I hope to find some adults later in the year." on this page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pcoin/3557539275/
So, I guess I won't be able to find a full ID, but it's neat to know more about it.
Also, I had to laugh when I saw this page: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/showimage/2860/ , because I had told my Mom it reminded me of a buffalo/bison!
Thanks again!
