This sapling is growing on the fence line. We would like to dig it up to take with when we move. The tree is actually on our property....but what about the roots?
This is a flowering plum tree (Plant ID forum) and is about 8 foot high but only about 2" diameter trunk.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Prumus cerasifera- can it be dug up
You could try to dig it up. Figure the roots grow as far out as the drip line. I don't know when you're moving, but I would plant it in a large container first and let it settle in. When it's time to move you'll have some indication if it's going to survive the transplant. If not, you haven't wasted your time planting it at your new home.
