Chickens using the water bucket for a bathroom

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey greykytten, here again it comes down to the difference in the temp in locations. My BF's basement is very cool in the summer and so was my mom's. We don't have a lot of problems with mold. If your warm from being out in the summer sun here, even on our 90 degree days, you just head for the basement. It's as good as being in air conditioning.
But then our winters can be something else here too.
Sending a picture, just so you get and idea of what our winters are like.

Wanna come help shovel?
How do we back out of the drive way? Very Slowly!

Haystack, Hanging waterers? hummm need to check into that. I know the guy I got the two girls had them hanging with some contraption that allowed them to drink, I should go check it out.

I feed in the late afternoon, and water both in the am and pm since it turned hot. They useally have feed left over in the am and sine it may attract bugs they can munch on they are happy.

One thing I've wondered about hanging waterers is that don't the chickens bump into them and set them swinging so the water sloshes out? My chickens are already quite rambunctious on their brooder and dash about madly all day long. (I should check to see if dh is feeding them coffee.)

LOL Gwen

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

Coffee.. now there's an explanation for the lets run around like 4 yr olds situation. I have days they don't move once they get up.. they just lay around like cats.. then i have days where they run around constantly, flying, & running & roosting & ending up on top of the garage.

kassy_51... I'll shove snow if you'll let me go sledding! Please please send that this way this winter. I miss the winters we got 30 inches of snow a month. Its about time for us to get a "bad" (good!) winter again with lots of snow. Last couple years we've been getting hit with the 3 to 4 inches of ice on everything.

Haystack - i "can't" scold the babies.. they might decide to rebel & not give me eggs! The lil princess piggies must be treated gently & sweetly so that I get as many eggs as possible.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

greykyttyn, we would gladly send it your way.
We got hit with 2 years of almost record breaking snowfalls. Only one year holds the record from last year. And I'm not sure I want to see that broken. LOL
To the south in the state, they did break the record by the middle of feb. I think they ended at just over 100 inches in one snow season. Lucky them!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Jestr, so pretty!

I was serious when I asked about the hanging waterer/feeders......don't the chickens bump into them and make a mess?

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Porkpal, I would take the snow any day over this heat...

Gwen, I love the high desert and it is a treat to see the snow... Not to mention it got me a day off of work, LOL the road was too bad to go into town... Now you all can see pictures of my ranch, my little slice of heaven...

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

I was at the fair last night and they had waterers for pigs almost like what I invision for the chickens.

Gwen on the waters i tried those and mine would fly up on the top and somehow spill them or just push them somehow sideways and empty them.
Never worked for me but i see it did for Hay maybe he knows the secret on how to use them.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I have seen those for pigs, and I am thinking that I would have to mount it somehow on the side of the run so they would not tip it... The tip would have to go thru the wire. That would cause them to hang around the fence line which might not be a good thing around here..

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

why not put a pole in the center of the run.. good catch on the fenceline though, I hadn't thought that far.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

On backyard chickens I've seen multiple threads about those kinds of waterers and feeders for chickens. They are mounted in a corner of the coop or on the side of the run. They look pretty nifty.

I'm not there yet, still working on the coop!

(Zone 7b)

Gwen aaahhhh another BYC fan there is loads of info on waters there thats where i learned how to make waterers for my ducks.
I have seen some really cool feeders folks have made there and coops too.

I was just there talking about my new Grey Calls i'm picking up this weekend ""YIPPY""

Nice pics of the snow MissJester
My brother sent pixs of snow on the cacti once, loved it.

OK, time to go out and check on my flowers and the eggs. :)

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I now know why it is dirty... they are part duck... They play in the water and leave the other bucket I put in there clean to drink out of... The mystery has been solved...

Wish we had that now... We are in a Heat wave 107+ which is strange for us.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

It's supposed to be 105 here in Portland today, it was 75 when I got up at 3:30 this morning. It was 103 yesterday and supposed to be 100+ tomorrow, then upper 90s the rest of the week cooling into the upper 80s for the weekend. I'm ready for fall.

Ferndale, WA

Loreen! I had to laugh, people down south and east coast do not know how hot that is for us. LOL My poor girls are suffering. They just look at me in a stooper, like I ordered this weather. Not. Hay
